Kayaking Raquel Kirk

Every time I go kayaking, I have an awesome time. It never ceases to amaze me, how much peace and serenity eludes me. From the moment I step into the deep blue water and sit inside my kayak I envision my ride around the lake to my favorite spot on the swimming rock and then just gliding around till sunset. It’s a wonderful adventure that eagerly awaits me. My kayak fits me perfectly, It’s absolutely beautiful. It has the most vibrant orange with bright yellows and reds surrounding the entire kayak. It definitely stands out just like a ball of flaming sun fire. Right behind the seat, is a built in compartment where I can store some food and drinks for the day. Towards the front is a retractable foot rest, where I can position my feet comfortably to my liking. Then I sit inside and gently run my fingers along the side of its smooth and

I shift my eyes out to the rest of the lake. The view is breathtaking. The water is as clear as glass and looks like thousands of diamonds being thrown across a blue blanket, shimmering with sheer beauty. It’s as if I’m now in another world. With each stroke of my paddle, I gain more speed till I’m out in the middle of my lake. I come to a stop. I close my eyes and tilt my head upward toward the hot sun, as it beats down upon my skin. Sweats is dripping down my forehead. A warm breeze brushes up against my face. I look over just as a flock of birds were soaring by. Truly amazing. I start paddling again, heading swiftly towards the my favorite place, the swimming

The water glistened off the sun like a polished pearl. After strolling up to the shore, she gazed at the astounding view. She hopped into ice-cold liquid, and felt a chill crawl up her back. “How does it feel,” yelled a far off voice. “It feels great… jump right in,” she lied. She thought about how Lake Holcombe allows people to be themselves, spend time with family, and become stronger mentally and physically.…

It was a ghastly type of day in northern Minnesota, specifically Seagull Creek Fishing Camp. No phone service to be found, television to be watched or people to interact with. Yes, there was the old couple that lived down the bumpy and torn apart road but besides that you would have drive almost three hours to see any civilization. The camp was run and maintained by a guy named Mike Berg. He lived in the town back 131 miles, Grand Marais. He owns three of the four cabins located on the camp, while the other is cabin set as a museum of the camp. It holds some past of the camp and why it was so successful in the past years. After waking up that with the sun just blaring on my face, my hands lifted up to my face to wipe off any eye…

We were ready. Paddles in hand, canoe by our side, personal floatation devices, knee pads, and cameras. The afternoon sun shined on the lake, reflecting it across the calm waters. Crowds of people were enjoying their Sunday afternoon on North Beach at Devil’s Lake State Park. Young children stumbled on the moist sand and shallow waters as they tried to catch tadpoles with their small buckets. Soothing, a gentle breeze passed by as we walked towards the edge of Devil’s Lake. Marveling at the majestic mountain of cedars around the lake and smelling the damp sand, my dad, little sister, and I were all set to take on our first wilderness inquiry; canoeing across a lake. It was safe to say that we were in for an exciting adventure…

So we decided to go find somewhere to park the boat for lunch. Eventually we found this really cool cave that had plenty of room to put the boat under, and we got out the sandwich stuff. It’s kind of a tradition we have to have sandwiches when we go boating or snowmobiling. So we got out the bread, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, meat, and pickles along with the fruit salad, and Powerades. After I had finished eating I got bored and decided to go for a swim, so I cannon balled in, and the water was even warmer inside of the cave! I just laid back on my lifejacket and floated, it was so…

In my earlier years my family took me camping to a lake. My cousins came as well, which made it even more enjoyable. When we arrived at the campsite, I was in awe. It was something out of a Disney movie. There were towering pine trees shielding us from the sun’s rays. Wild plants and bushes surrounded our campsite, but not too far away was a clearing in the bushes where we can see the lake in all its glory. People were fishing, kayaking, swimming, and playing with their dogs.…

After an analysis of the sport of fishing, I have learned a lot about its discourse community and how people are involved in the sport today, and how the sport has effected the world today. My research started with the interpretation of several books related to the discourse community, which brought the attention of new information about professional fishing to the forefront of my research of the everyday life of the discourse community members. The sport of fishing has a wide variety of the type of members that represent the community, such as new members, or members that are not as serious as a professional fisherman, but anyone can join the discourse as an up and coming member at anytime, especially little kids. To become apart of this discourse all you really need to do is have the desire to go fishing, which a lot of people use as a relaxation tool for their life.…
