Creating A Myth Analysis

Most people when they think of a hero imagine strong muscular men in colorful suits that can fly or break through walls. What about the fireman that gets the little girls cat down from the tree, the doctors that save lives, or better yet those who fight to protect our country? In the passage, “Creating a Myth”, author Linda Segar, explains how we all have similar experiences, even in successful movies. In 2014, popular film American Sniper was released, sharing an inspiring yet tragic story about an U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle. As Linda Seger states as her first “beat”, in most hero stories, the hero is introduced in ordinary surroundings, in a mundane world, doing mundane things, generally the hero beginning as a non­hero. After things settled down, the SEALs returned to the grounds and continued their mission. Unfortunately, a shootout with Mustafa accord, causing yet again another death for soldier Marc Lee. Marc Lee was Chris’s right hand man and always had his back. This was the most crucial death for Chris. After this event it was time for Chris to go home to try to snap back into his daily routines. Now in the article “Creating the Myth”, Chris has related to the 7th “beat” hitting rock bottom, feeling extremely guilty for the death of his closest friend, Marc Lee. Nothing is working out at home no matter what he tries to do and his temper is shorter fused. Guilt compels Chris to undertake a fourth tour and Taya tells him that she may not be there when he returns.
Reaching Linda Segers theory on the 8th “beat”, Chris is in charged and ready to defeat his enemy. Back in Iraq, Chris is assigned to kill Mustafa, who is now sniping combat engineers building a barricade. Chris’ sniper team is placed back onto a rooftop inside enemy territory. At high risk, Chris spots Mustafa and takes a shot finally completing his mission. Only down side of taking that shot, was this exposes the team to insurgents. Mixed in a firefight and sandstorm, Chris is injured and almost left
