Thesis statement: in the article, Should parents spy on their children's emails and texts? By Judith Woods. She mentioned many situations and experiences and I agreed on some points and disagree on many others as there were false assumptions, weak evidence and logical fallacies and that became a source of weakness in this article. --------------
I. Common ground:
Topic sentence: the writer gets out a good topic and was convincing and simple.
A. First Idea: “Kelly believes that technology should be part of family life with the sort of set of rules and expectations that you have for table manners or bedtimes”.
B.
1- Explain: Technology must be used by setting rules.
2- Evidence : becomingminimalist.com …show more content…
3- Evidence: makeuseof.com, by Ryan dupe 2013
---------------
III. Weak evidence:
Topic sentence: the writer used some weak and uncredible evidence to get the ideas in the article.
A. The first weak evidence: there is no credible sources it just a research.
B. The second weak evidence: second hand experience as the writer uses parents websites and use their stories and experience.
----------------
V .Logical fallacies:
Topic sentence: there were also logical fallacies in the article and it's a point of weakness.
A. Slippery Slope: “If you are caught spying on your child, you risk creating a situation in which the child keeps secrets, is angry with you and rebels by leading a separate online life.”
1- Explain: the writer address the parents and tells them if they spy on their children that will make their children keep secrets and get mad and think of living alone.
B. Hasty Generalization: “ALL teenagers have a natural desire for privacy”
1- Explain: the writer admires that all teenagers likes the idea of privacy and that by nature.
