Conservation: Biodiversity and Natural Resources
Conservation is the protection and preservation of natural resources in the enviorment. the important renewable natural resources are air water soil wildlife and forests.
Conservation is necessary for the following reasons:
1. ensure the protection of plant and animal species and to prevent their extinction,
2. maintain a stable and balanced ecosystem. This prevents disruption of natural cycles and global warming.
3. to ensure conservation of marine life as they are a major source of human food.
4. conservation is of scientific value. the study of wildlife provides useful information for man's survival.
5. ensure the conservation of tropical rainforests as they are of economic importance. Tropical rainforest houses a large no. of species of plants and animals. many tropical plants are of great economic importance as they are sources of raw material for industries, medicinal drugs, natural insecticides and food.
1.raw material for industries include fibres, cotton and oils.
2.nearly 25% of medicinal drugs are originated from some plant species in the rainforests, like quinine, an anti-malarial drug and morphine, a pain suppressing drug) are dervived from such plants.
4.Pyrethrum is used in the insecticide industry.
3.Tropical plants are also a source of food (maize, rice, pineapple and banana are some examples of food plants).

We have to tackle conservation indirectly through human population control and reducing or eliminating pollution and by directly conserving natural resources. For conservation education and legislation are very important.
Forests, a major source of oxygen helps to moderate the weather, and provide shade and protection for the soil. Forests are a source of medicine, food and are a natural habitat.
From an ecological point of view, they help to maintain a balance on the environment by checking pollution and protecting the soil from erosion by wind or water, and intercepting rainfall on sloping ground, and regulate

A rainforest is a sweltering, thick jungle that gets a lot of rain. Many plants and animal species live there. Most rainforests are located around the equator and near the tropics hence the name tropical rainforest. Rainforests are very important to the earth. They help to purify and clean the air that we breathe. Some of the resources we get from rainforests include chocolate, sugar, cinnamon, paper ,timber and medicine. Deforestation is a serious issue in nature today mostly because loggers our cutting down our air supply and farmers are burning down trees for more and more land. Most of them act illegally, but they should be aware that they are hurting themselves also Some people have been cutting down the trees to sell the wood and make room for farms. Many tropical forest plants evolved chemical defenses against the insects that would eat their leaves. These active chemicals often have, by coincidence, physiological effects on us. Think of aspirin, caffeine, digitalis, and quinine. Perhaps a third or more of western medicines had their origins as plant defense chemicals, and most of these have been from tropical forests. They include chemicals to treat rheumatism, diabetes, muscle tension, malaria, heart conditions, skin diseases, arthritis, glaucoma and many other diseases. Despite our obvious dependence on tropical rainforests, nearly half of these forests have been destroyed in the last 75 years. Every time a forest patch is destroyed it is likely that a yet undiscovered medicine for a disease like uterine cancer or a food that could raise the quality of life for millions of people is lost forever.…

Tropical rainforests support a greater number and variety of animals than any other biome. One of the reasons for this great variety of animals is the constant warmth. Tropical rainforests also provide a nearly constant supply of water and a wide variety of food for the animals. Small animals, including monkeys, birds, snakes, rodents, frogs, and lizards are common in the tropical rainforest. Many of these animals and a multitude of insects never set foot on the ground. The animals use the tall trees and understory for shelter, hiding places from their predators, and a source of food. There are so many animals competing for food, many animals have adapted by learning to eat a particular food eaten by no other animal. The tropical rainforest is being destroyed by deforestation and diseases. Tropical Rainforest: Plants…
