Hi, I am Alex. When we live in the society, we are dealing conflict with strangers, parents, friends, and relatives every day. It might be as tiny as complaint about not washing clothes, or as huge as argument of selecting future career, but the results will affect the relationship between you and the people who you care. It is important to learn about the process of conflict, so we can clearly see the cause, and avoid it. In page 175 of our textbook, Communication in a civil society, it introduces a theory called phase theory and it relates to our life experience deeply. Because we knew each other very well, we often had conflicts. Every time he sleeps overnight in my home, my parents will let him play what he wants, and buy what he likes to eat. I felt jealous and finally got mad with him. In this example, phase theory is involved. In prelude to conflict step, my cousin and I who were male and about ten years old were in a conflict situation. We were cousin and my parents were interested party to the conflict. The triggering event is receiving nice treat from my parents for every visit. The initiation phase is my attitude to my cousin became worse and said I don't want to play with him. The differentiation phase will be the argument and ignoring each other that lasted for one day. Abigail and Cahn's research also show steps to resolve the conflict. The first step is meeting together and paying attention to the issues, and second step is communicating between two parties. In resolution phase, I used perception check to my parents. I asked them why they treat my cousin better than me and am I not their child. My parents explained that we were the host of the house, so we have the responsibility to make every guest happy. I understood my parents' explanation, and I apologized to my cousin. The page 176 of textbook points out that " the issue is settled for the time being while recognizing that it may arise again in the future."
