Concussions: A Mild Traumatic Brain Injury
Did you know a concussion is also called a mild traumatic brain injury. Concussion are one of the worst injuries to have. You get a concussion a blow to the head or a violent shaking of the head and body.
In sixth grade my brother got a concussion. It happen when he was play football in a tournament. On a kick off the other team’s player hit my brother in the head and he didn't get up for a couple minutes. After he got up he couldn't see anything like he was blind and sat on the sideline the rest of the game.
After the concussion my brother spent a lot of time at home. When ever he was in a room all the lights had to be turned off. He could not use electronics for a couple days like the Tv, his phone, iPad. He couldn't go to school for a week so he had lots of missing assignments and homework. …show more content…
He could use technology again. He hung out with his friends. He could play sports again, but he had a lot of missing assignments.
These are all reasons concussions are one of the worst injuries to have. This is what happens if you aren't prepared in sports. After all this happened I will always remember to keep my head on a swivel during

    Concussions can be very difficult to spot especially since plays don’t necessarily have to be knocked out in order to receive a concussion. This is why players who suffer from head injuries are often told to "shake it off" and get back in the game. With head traumas your symptoms either come immediately or take a while and you start to have blurry vision, confusion, and inability to concentrate. Women develop concussions much easier than men because women have smaller and weaker necks so we head shakes more vigorous than men. However, with men their necks are more developed and have more muscle with their necks so because of that the necks do not snap back and forth as easily. Women suffer similar symptoms as men such as headache, memory loss, feelings of depression, and sensitivity to noise and light. The only difference is that women may be misdiagnosed of not having a concussion because people or doctors assume they are just going through their menstruation cycle. Head trauma is more affected in males due to the more contact physical activities they do. If you are having impairments due to your concussion or head injury you may be in the 504 plan. The 504 Plan is a plan that protects children you have the disabilities that are unable to perform in the classroom and gives them the time needed to recover from their injury.
