Research Topic: Comparison and Evaluation of Marker Inks Derived from Two Natural Sources

Good afternoon, everyone. Today we are very pleased to present to you an interesting research topic that we have experimented upon for the past few months. That research topic is the comparison and evaluation of marker inks derived from two natural sources. Now, the history of markers dates back to 1910 but until the present time, people still use them in their daily lives. However, we are not aware that some commercial marker pens contain harmful chemicals like Xylene which is a flammable liquid that can be fatal if swallowed. It can also cause other harmful effects such as nausea, dizziness and the like. Another chemical marker pens have is tuolene which is a clear liquid commonly found in gasoline. Too much exposure to it can cause headache, sleepiness and deteriorates one’s ability to think vividly. Because of these, we have made it our goal to use natural products such as fruits specifically blueberries and strawberries as compared to the commercial markers without excluding the longevity and quality of the ink. This gives us the ability to answer the question “Can natural sources be used in the production of marketable ink?”

Based on the given problem, we have hypothesized that natural markers may prove to be effective in terms of ink longevity and quality as compared to commercial markers. With that, the experiment will be conducted with the following objectives:
To create a marker produced from fruits that won’t contain dangerous chemicals that may harm the user
To test the quality and ink longevity of naturally made markers through a comparison with commercial markers
To determine the degree of penetration on the paper
