The heart is what some determine to be the most important organ in our bodies and one of the biggest contributors. It is one of the major organs that if we did not have, it would not be possible for us to live. The heart is about the size of a fist and is broken down into four chambers, the aorta, superior vena cava, pulmonary artery, and the coronary artery. The four chambers include the right and left atrium and the right and left ventricle. The heart is responsible for supplying oxygen and blood to the entire body. The blood flows through our heart in a series of different steps and factors. Oxygen flows into the heart through the right atrium where at this time the tricuspid valve is closed, allowing the blood to fill the right atrium. Next, the muscle walls of the right atrium contract and push the blood through the tricuspid valve into the right ventricle. Once this occurs the right ventricle contracts and pushes the blood through the pulmonic valve into the pulmonary artery. The oxygen rich blood is then returned from the lungs to the left sides of the heart and into the left atrium. The contract of the muscle of the left atrium pushes the blood out into the left ventricle.
