    Nordstrom vs. Macy's

Historically speaking, Canada has never been a great market for American retailers. The Canadian dollar was weak, costs were higher, and with limited real estate development, it was difficult to find space. Not anymore, now the door to Canada is opening wider than ever thanks to a stronger Canadian dollar, a relatively robust economy, and a loosening of the commercial real estate market, in part because of the downsizing of some longtime retailers like Sears Canada. For American retailers, Canada’s allure is simple; sales per square foot at Canadian malls were almost 50 percent higher in 2011 than sales per square foot at American malls. This is a budding market that Nordstrom will need to act towards if they hope to keep up with the competition in the future.…

Sephora and Ulta are different in many ways. For example, Sephora has a higher end of makeup brands like Laura, Mercier, Dior, and Nars. On the other hand, Ulta has more of a drug store products. Ulta also has more hair products and nail products to offer and Sephora does not. The ratings between these two makeup stores are not too far apart. The retail industry such as Men’s Wearhouse, Macy’s, Burlington, and Express operate websites and are part of a highly competitive industry. They contend with local, national, and global online retailers that bring comparable products and offer comparable services. Consumer opportunities in retail are shifting quickly with online retail stores, with an innovative future, which includes speed, convenience, and personalized mobile access. The change to e-commerce is pervasive to traditional retailers that must adjust their growth strategies, or risk a downturn in business. Whereas retail is ever expanding within e-commerce, retailers do offer different products and services in order to promote their…

The two companies I chose to compare were Sephora and Ulta Beauty. Both stores are cosmetic retailers and sell many of the same products. Sephora has been around longer originating in Paris in the year 1970, and opening it 's first U.S store in 1998. Sephora runs approximately 1,300 stores in 27 countries worldwide, with a consistently growing base of over 300 stores across North America. Ulta Beauty was founded in 1990 trying to reach out to women as a place to shop other than department stores and drugstores for their beauty needs. As of 2013, Ulta is operating 576 stores across the span of 46 states. The company has also equipped each of their stores with a full service salon, hoping that women would appreciate the one stop shopping experience. Although both chains have similar product and price points, they possess two very different advertising, promotional and customer service styles and different ways in how they present themselves to the public.…

Maybelline’s “new the Falsies Big Eyes” mascara advertises their new double brush tube that will magically give you glamorous, larger eyes. Being the first of its kind, advertisers claim that women must buy it and try it out. Such claim, that Falsies can create bigger eyes, amplifying lashes 360 degrees, is implicit because it cannot be verified. Women are born with varying eye shape and size that mascara alone cannot change.…
