I chose to compare and contrast Tom Wingfield and Lee Younger. They are two gentlemen from two different plays. The lives they live are similar yet very different in many ways. They are both workingmen with dreams but no money to make their dreams come true.
Tom Wingfield has a dream of having money to become a poet and travel where as Lee Younger wants to go in the liquor business. Both have no money to do what they want, but have plans of making it a reality. They are both willing to sacrifice something to make their dreams come true. But if they do so and things fail, they will lose a lot from that. Tom uses the money to pay the electric to try and make his dreams work and Lee uses his mom’s money from her deceased husband …show more content…
They both set the bar high for themselves despite the outcome. They do not care what it takes to get where they want to go. They seem to be a bit selfish when it comes to money even though they have nothing but good intentions at heart. They do not seem to understand what they could lose if things go wrong. They are not very realistic people when it comes to life. Both are hard headed and not very reasoning.
Another difference between the two is Tom does not risk his entire families money for his dream. Lee is willing to risk his family’s money for his dream. Tom just does not pay the electric bill; he does not let a new house in a nice neighborhood almost not happen for his. Tom is more considerate of what is at risk for his family. They can have the electric turned back on when they have the money to do so. But another nice house like the younger’s are looking at might not have happened again for a long while.
These two characters have a lot more in common than they do in difference. They both are willing to risk a lot for dreams that could potentially fail and cost them a lot. In the end they both learn lessons that were very important to them and made them realize what was really important to them. They are both men that are trying to do what they think is right for their
