Rikki-Tikki-Tavi

Mongooses are like a shield. They protect you from harm. Mongooses fight snakes. Snakes know that a mongoose is dangerous. The mongoose would eventually kill the snake. Gardens are a home for many species of animals. Gardens can be homes for snakes, mongooses, birds, and humans. The two mediums, a book and a video, are very similar, but have a few differences. The printed version of Rikki-Tikki-Tavi had an exciting problem, climax, and resolution. It started with Rikki-Tikki being washed by a flood. A family finds Rikki-Tikki, and he protects them at whatever cost. Two cobras, Nag and Nagaina want to rule the garden, so they plan to kill the family. That is the problem in Rikki-Tikki-Tavi. It gave a breathtaking picture of the story. With an edge of your seat beginning, the video showed Rikki-Tikki being swept away by a flood. A family saves him. The two cobras, Nag and Nagaina, want to take over the garden. They plan to kill the family, and then force Rikki-Tikki to leave. This is the same problem in the other medium. Unlike the book, the movie shows the cobras having a short conversation about their plan to kill the family. After the conversation, Nag goes into the bathroom and waits. Though Nag is still awake, Rikki-Tikki leaps on top of him and tries to kill him. He is thrown around, again, but still kills Nag. The father came in with a big gun and shot Nag. Now that Nag is dead, Nagaina must kill the family herself. Rikki-Tikki stops her by killing her eggs, and taunting her with the last one. Nagaina slithers to her hole, and Rikki-Tikki is close behind. Once they both were in the hole, Rikki-Tikki kills Nagaina. This scene is very overwhelming because of the background music and image. The movie of Rikki-Tikki-Tavi has a very similar, but lively, problem, climax, and

When fighting with Nagaina, she went down to a hole “and she plunged into the rat hole where she and Nag used to live, his little white teeth were clenched on her tail and he went down with her and very few mongooses- however wise and old they maybe, care to go into the hole.” (27) This shows how brave Rikki-tikki was since none of the mongooses will ever go down, but he did because “Rikki-tikki knew he must catch her or all the trouble will begin again.” (26) Another time he showed bravery was when Nag was in the water jug he risked his life to jump in there and hold on. “Then he jumped. The head was lying a little clear from the water jar, under the curve of it; and as his teeth, Rikki braced his back against the bulge of the red earthenware to hold down the head. This gave him one second purchase, and he made the most of it. Then he was battered to and fro as a rat shaken by a dog…..” (22) He could of just let go,but he chose not to and wait into the humans killed Nag completely. This shows how brave he was.…

    Diction In The Rattler

The author’s diction heightens the power and force behind the snake as it responds to the man. When the man first stumbles across the rattlesnake, it is “undulant” while “waiting” and holding its ground in calm “watchfulness.” The diction conveys slight tension in the otherwise still setting. The atmosphere feels tranquil, and while the snake is cautious, it is still at ease. This tranquility disappears, however, as the man attacks, and the snake “shoots” into a dense bush and shakes its “furious” signal after a “twitch” of its tail. The snake’s movements show much more power than they did before the man attacked. In turn, the atmosphere becomes more tense as the snake becomes more forceful. The diction describing the snake before and after the man attacks creates a contrast…

Don Anselmo and Mrs.Higgins are similar because they both stand up for what they want. They have in common that they are both being strong in the beginning. Don Anselmo and Mrs. Higgins are different because Don Anselmo stays strong throughout the entire story but at the end Mrs.Higgins does not. I would not say they are more different than similar because they both want something better for the kids in their life.…

Young men who are sent to a war learn the reality in a very harsh and brutal way. Both the stories, ‘The Red Convertible’ and ‘The Things They Carried’ portray the life of a young soldier and how he psychologically gets affected from all the things he had seen in the war. Tim O’Brien’s ‘The Things They Carried,’ is more specific on the experiences of a soldier during a war where as Karen Louise Erdrich focuses more on describing the post war traumatic stress in her short story ‘The Red Convertible’. One thing similar in both the narrations is the Vietnam War and its consequences on the soldiers. From the background of both the authors it’s easy to conclude that Tim O’Brien being a war veteran emphasizes more on the war scenes where as Louise Erdrich focuses mainly on the life inside the reservations, which makes sense as she has a Native American ancestry.…

In Walt Whitman’s “I Hear America Singing,” and Claude McKay’s “America” the poets present a similar view of America, but they do so in a very different manor. While both show a love for America and focus on life in America, that is where their similarities end. Whitman’s view of America is up-beat and positive, focusing on the life of everyday people in America. McKay’s view of America is much more negative, and reveals the dark side of the American life. Each used various literary tools to portray their view of America.…

The author then depicts the snake as an innocent creature to continue to produce the effect of life being dear for the snake, also. When the author first introduces the snake to the reader the snake did not have his head "drawn back to strike." The detail to include the snake's "calm watchfulness" and demeanor of the snake creates an effect of a snake that is not mean or despicable, but of a snake that is…
