Teen Stars When it comes to teen stars, Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift are two of the most popular ones. They have many things in common such as: multiple number one songs, acting, and even their own clothing lines. However, they are also very different. The way they became famous, the music they sing, and the image they have or have tried to create are some of their differences. They became famous in completely different ways. Miley got her claim to fame through Disney Channel. She had her own television show that became popular at an extremely fast rate. She automatically had her platform to fame. Taylor Swift on the other hand, had a lot harder path to fame. She had no association to Disney channel. She was actually discovered on the social media site, MySpace. She had recorded some of her songs and uploaded them to MySpace where she was discovered by label in Nashville, Tennessee. She went from being a normal high school student to on the radio in only 9 months. The type of music Miley and Taylor use to sing were very similar. However, Miley was tired of being seen as a child’s musician, so she took a whole new spin on her music. Her songs became very inappropriate for young listeners. Her music turned to pop and she reference drugs and going to clubs. Taylor on the other hand, relates to all age groups. She mostly sings about relationships. None of her songs have foul language or vulgar content. She is categorized in the country genre, but she is an artist that almost every girl can relate to. The image they want to portray could not be more different. Miley is trying to break away from the Disney channel crowd, and by doing so she is in a phase where she is acting out. She has cut all of her hair off and has started dressing vulgar. She is getting a lot of negative attention in the media. She is very rude in her interviews. At the award show, she was practically naked, and then she came out on stage and proceeded to pretend she was fingering herself

Over the years, country music has changed. From Appalachian music to Hillbilly music to officially calling itself country music. It went to pop, jazz and blues. Change is affected largely by consumer demand, country music changed rapidly from 1972 to 1977. Due to this demand, lyrical themes focused more exclusively on love problems and were more explicit in discussing various sorts of deviant behavior. Chord structures and rhythms became more complex, orchestrations became fuller, and the singing styles became smoother. In all these ways, the most widely heard country music sounded more like the other genres of popular music in 1977 (Peterson). This also affected how it was portrayed in the media. Songs that are getting played on these stations are starting to sound less like country and more like rock, hip hop and pop, a result of the list of musicians these days who are misrepresenting the industry they call “country.”(Policastro). Country music change due to the influence of popular musicians. Taylor Swift, for example, the the winner of 18 country music awards. Her instant popularity made her left her country style and switched to pop which resulting to misguiding her fans to this transition.…

When I was first asked to Vote it was an easy choice for me. I was picking Donald Trump. He was a business man that could help America financially and could take us out of the national debt. However, the more I looked at Donald Trump and the way his outlook on things were, I started to notice that maybe he is not a good fit for our president. Based on the way he wants to face the issues of education, foreign policy, and immigration, compared to Hilary Clinton and her way to face the issues it is clear to me now that Hilary Clinton is a better choice for presidential office than Donald Trump.…

However, her twerking was not the only thing she used to make her performance feel black. The song titled “We Can’t Stop” was given to and performed by Cyrus after she said she wanted something that “felt black”. Seeing as the song was originally written for Rihanna, a black music performer, one can say that Cyrus definitely got her wish. Furthermore, Cyrus allegedly said she feels like Lil’ Kim inside, another black music artist, and that she likes “hood” music (Freeman 2013). This only further illustrates the idea that Cyrus may not know what cultural appropriation is because it makes no sense for her as a white woman to say she is a black woman inside without purposefully disrespecting black culture. However, it could also be the case that Cyrus simply does not care about cultural appropriation, but instead cares about her own personal gain from attempting to act like a black woman.…

On August 25, 2013 the world watched in disgust as celebrity Miley Cyrus twerked and gyrated on stage at the Video Music Awards Show. People caused a fuss over her back up dancers all being African American women with large derrieres, her twerking, pointing to her feminine area on her body, pushing her face in one of her dancers derriere while smacking it, grinding on a foam finger, and grinding on a married man. The sociological perspective on deviance is described by “sociologist Howard S. Becker [as]: It is not the act itself, but the reactions to the act, that make something deviant” (Henslin 190). Although this behavior is deemed as normal in music videos and clubs, it was considered unacceptable because Miley Cyrus started her career as a child star on Disney Channel; a cable network that targets children of all ages. Miley started on a sitcom called Hannah Montana and quickly became popular with kids. Even though the star is now 20 years old and no longer work as Hannah Montana she is still considered that little girl from Disney and it shocked the world for her to behave in such a way.…
