Compare And Contrast Beowulf Vs Green Arrow

Many modern day comics, movies, and television series are based on epic hero values but are given the “superhero” label. Green Arrow for example is similar to Beowulf, a well known epic hero. They both are born from noble families and fight for fame and glory. They also both have faced defeat in battle protecting their people. Epic heroes, while they can perform impossible tasks and journeys, they lack a superhero power. Protecting their people is one of the main focuses of these two epic heroes. While Beowulf fights for the Geats, Green Arrow fights for Star City. They both have run ins with evil forces that have evil powers but somehow still prevail. However, this isn’t always the case, they both end up finding themselves defeated. Epic
They started seeking the fame from fighting more than defeating evil to protect the people. Both use to public attention, coming from rich and noble families. The fame they received went to there heads. Eventually this caught up to them, Green Arrow became a drunk playboy and more of a vigilante than a hero. Beowulf went into a fight with way too much confidence which ultimately led to his death. Humans can’t be perfect, no matter how close they seem to be. Like most modern day heroes Green Arrow hides from the public eye with his alter ego, Oliver Queen. To the public he’s a drunken millionaire, unlike Beowulf who proudly walks around accepting praise from the geats and his followers. Green Arrow wants to keep his two life separate while enjoying the fame that comes from being a hero and rich. Beowulf keeps it simple by not having an alter ego to switch back and forth with. Beowulf and Green Arrow are both epic heros. They share a lot of ideals and characteristics but still remain a little different. It is uncommon for a modern day hero to be labeled as an epic hero even though most of the heros are.
