Communal Harmony: Need of the Hour
COMMUNAL HARMONY: NEED OF THE HOUR There is hardly any other country in the world than India which has a great diversity of culture, religion, language, tradition, community etc. People live and think in terms of their respective religions, faiths and tongues, and seek to serve their selfish ends without thinking of the national good. Such thinking is dangerous and is bound to lead to the disintegration of the country in the long run. The need of the hour, therefore, is to fight the forces of disunity and disharmony and to work ceaselessly for the achievement of national harmony and peace. Communal harmony is the coming together of all the communities of the country and living together with a sense of brotherhood and equality, irrespective of their caste, creed, religion etc. We should sink our personal differences in larger interests of the country and adopt a common approach to national problems if we want to achieve the laudable goal of national integration and communal harmony. Attrocities are being committed in our country, day in and day out, in the name of caste, sect, community, social and economic differences and divergent political veiwpoints. Extremists and terrorists who have let loose the reign of terror in some parts of our country and have killed hundreds of innocent and peace-loving citizens, are being lionised as martyrs. It is our bounden duty, as patriotic citizens of our country, to fight tooth and nail against these anti-social elements who are bent upon destroying the unity and integration of the country. So our goal is clear, to put a stop to the process of disintegration that has lately started raising its ugly head and to accelerate the process of communal harmony, solidarity and oneness that has recently received a setback. How to achieve this is the main problem? We have to make all our brethren feel that the whole country belongs to them, that there is no high and low in our country, that there is no distinction between the

One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish, I wish that society would overcome the crippling and arbitrary views on race and religion. The very concept of dividing and separating members of the humanity based on color and nationality is asinine given that race is a social construct. The insipid and manmade concepts of race and religion has ignited and induced countless bloodshed among individuals who neglect that all participants in the deadly and unnecessary evil of war are members of the human race. The inventions of race and religion have only serve to divide individuals on the values and morals when morality cannot be defined.…

Just as we formerly pointed out that "hatred and violence have no sanction in our religious and political traditions," we also point out that such actions as incite to hatred and violence, however technically peaceful those actions may be, have not contributed to the resolution of our local problems. We do not believe that these days of new hope are days when extreme measures are justified in…

An individual’s nationalistic views and beliefs can compete with another to form contending nationalist loyalties. Source I portrays the contending religious and civic loyalties in a nation. The author of the source claims that the principal of national unity should be raised above all other divisions and criticizes the idea of communalism, which regards religious nationalism as the main source of belonging. For an example, the conflicts between individuals with different religious beliefs should be perceived as conflicts between those individuals in the nation instead of perceiving it as conflicts between two different religious groups; solely interpreting the individuals with their religious identity. The author’s ideology of nationalism is heavily derived from a strong sense of patriotism and centered…

In this world, several characteristics quickly transform it into a horrible place, however, there has always been one constant that keeps this world together. This constant is the willingness to set aside differences to work for a greater future. But we sadly have devolved to a primitive social state in which a lot individuals resolve simple differences, such as political opinion, with violence. Similar to how Neanderthals resolved differences. Consequently resulting in why we live in a America so divided today. People have learned that the only way to express yourself is to suppress another person's voice even if it means causing physical harm. However, hope remains regardless of the differences, despite the violence. Thanks to groups who…

The social compact is being threatened by an increasing divisiveness. This polarizes us, but more importantly, depersonalizes us from our neighbor. Kindled by a materialistic fallacy, society seems to have surrendered to the notion of isolation. Yet, through my experiences in various cultures, I realize the value of diversity, tolerance, understanding, and social-environmental connection. If we can apply these principles to larger society, we may heal some of this division.…

Today, India is characterised by communal violence, religious strife, terrorist movements, regional alienation, political chaos, constant economic hick-ups, general corruption, Mafia raj, bomb-culture, etc. The great India of Lord Buddha, Mahavir, Shankaracharya, Swam Vivekananda, Mahatma Gandhi, and Jawaharlal Nehru is on the verge of break-up, unless of course, we put an end to these malaises that are eating into its very fabric. Action without vision creates division. Vision without action is imagination. Vision with action leads to transformation, says Swami Chinmayananda, global head of Chinmaya Mission. When the vision of oneness, a higher vision, is absent it creates divisions in the family, company, community, nation and the world. Self-importance is the cause for divisions at any level. In a family there are conflicts, in a company there is manipulation, in a community there is fanaticism, in a country each state wants its own independence and internationally there are wars. This is all because of the absence of vision of oneness -- one harmonious family, one strong nation, one peaceful global family.…
