Theatre productions come to life on stage. It’s like watching one of your wildest dreams come together piece by piece. For many people it’s like seeing something unimaginable. When you watch something like the Phantom of the Opera and see the beautiful décor such as the set and costuming, you are able to piece the story together. I love the theatre because it’s a fantasy that can be brought to reality. Montclair State can help me reach my goals by providing me with the tools and resources I need to succeed in the theatre world. My time as a student in Harrison High School has opened my eyes wider than I ever thought possible. I’ve been guided, steered, and placed on the correct path to a successful future. My teachers have helped me realize my weaknesses and shown me how to work with my strengths. One mentor in particular is the school’s music director. He has shown me many things in the musical world such as theatre, chorus, and band. Since then, I’ve fallen in love with the entire aspect of the stage. Mr. D has helped me realize my true potential, which has opened doors to many passions. Many people believe that theatre is something that’s considered easy or a job that pays more than it should. But it’s so much more than that. It’s a passion that many people don’t recognize. It involves hundreds of skills some of which include great communication. Communication is definitely one of my strongest attributes because it’s essential for a successful working environment. I like to understand all aspects of theatre and the people that contribute to its various functions. Conversing with the plethora of people that contribute to a working show, will negate any challenges I may encounter along my theatrical journey. Adding to my strengths in addition to being a good communicator, I am also a motivator. I am willing to rise up to any challenges that may surface, keep everyone on task, and most importantly show everyone a way to enjoy what they do. For example, I was

My personality/temperament results showed me to be a Performer Artisan. Performers have the special ability to delight those around them with their warmth, their good humor, and their tendency to excel in music, comedy, and drama. They are exciting and full of fun and they have a great social interest in influencing others around them to lighten up and enjoy life. Performers are plentiful and make up over 10% of the population. Performers aren’t comfortable being alone and seek the company of others as much as possible. They are smooth, talkative, and witty, and are quick to make wisecracks and wordplay. They like to live in the fast lane and are lively and uninhibited. Their knack for enjoying life is good for the most…

In an attempt to better understand what college is like, I recently interviewed Daniel Labonte, a music teacher in the Spruce Mountain school district. He is a music teacher at the elementary school, a chorus teacher at the middle school, and the music director for the high school drama program. Not only does he do this, but he also works outside of the school playing trombone for other musicals. He is fairly well known within the music community because of this.…

If I were to be accepted into Thomas Dale’s prodigious Program of the Performing Arts, I would be delighted, not only because I would be able to express my passion for the violin but I could also mingle with the numerous amount of others who possess similar interests as mine. It is also one of my objectives to become a professional musician further along in my career path, Thomas Dale would be one step closer to achieving such an arduous path for a profession. Another reason that seems minor, but is actually significant for my choice of striving for the Arts, is making my wonderful teacher and conductor proud. If I joined the specialty center I would be an asset to the school program because I display a strong fervor for the beautiful music…

I am inspired by those that act because the actors are challenging themselves and playing a role that they had most likely never played before. As the audience, I am absorbed into the characters’ world and how the little mannerisms of each character complete the play as a whole. I am an absolute fanatic for theatrical performances, whether it be a play, musical, or dance. I think that performers have to express themselves effortlessly, unbeknownst to the audience. By experiencing it firsthand through pit orchestra, I was fully able to appreciate how much time was put into the preparation of of a performance. As a student at Wellesley, I will be frequenting the musicals and plays performed by the theater because the fine arts is what fuels my imagination. Also through participating in pit, I learned that many, many hours are put into creating a fantastic, emotion-wrought performance. It is not just the actors that create the atmosphere, it is also the musicians. Along with the actors and possibly the music, there are more people that put the time into making the play “perfect”, something that the audience usually does not know or does not see. For this reason, I am very excited to learn that there is a theater (aka a place to watch plays/musicals/perform as a pit member) because whether I…

Although I can’t answer all the questions about how I’ll do it, I’m certain that I want to make a difference in the world. Barnard’s atmosphere and its joint theater program are the main factors that have influenced me to apply. Academically, Barnard is known for its intimate learning environment. I’ve spent my entire life going from one close-knit group to the next. Whether it was Taekwondo, Dance, Theater, or The Commonwealth Governor’s School, each of those groups were empowering, nurturing, and noble in their own individual ways. Barnard embodies all of those qualities, which is what I find attractive. Also, the joint-program for theater really speaks to me because it’s my personal belief that collaborative endeavors create true art. It’s true art that touches the lives of those who work on it and those who see it.…

A mindset that was moderately similar to the one I had been surrounded with in band. As my director spoke about how one’s determination, integrity and work ethic can take a person with nothing to the end of the line with everything. I had never thought about how obtainable the craziest dream could really be until this individual shared his ideals with the rest of the family…
