I have spent much of my free time in high school working with POST 84 Outdoor Education, teaching others the wonders of the wilderness has helped me to fall in love with the outdoors even more. Yet on various college tours, asking admission staff about their school’s outdoor program has been my most dreaded question because all too often the response is a disappointing “Well, I think there are …show more content…
The block schedule in high school was an improvement, but even then, it has never felt as if we have enough time to do justice to our academic courses. But a block month? Now that sounds like an idea I could get used to! I love the idea of focusing all my efforts on one subject at a time and believe that doing so would allow me to excel academically. Whether it’s being surrounded by the landscapes I love or the freedom to learn in a manner that suits me best, Colorado College would provide the perfect place for the next four years of my

Camping and being in the outdoors has been a significant part of my life for the last eight years. As a child, I never enjoyed it much. Three years ago, my family along with four other families decided to take a trip to Glacier National Park. The sky-piercing mountains and the beautiful lakes urged me to explore the outdoors more. From hiking through the mountainous trails to driving up the mountains through the Going-to-the-Sun road, I finally began to realize the relief and soothing sense that nature had to offer. Despite the love I finally found in the outdoors, I was never the dedicated and…

Many students are familiar with block scheduling where students go to four classes for an hour and a half each day. These extended classes jam material all into one class period. Most students have trouble paying attention while lessons are crammed down their throats without receiving any breaks either. Block scheduling would be ideal if a class material was spread throughout the year. By shortening each class, teachers should use the first half to teach and the second half to help the students apply what they learned. Students then can be given a reasonable amount of…
