College Essay On Honors College
As I sit here writing my first essay for Honors 101, I get to recall my decision making process to supposedly spending the best four years of my life at the University of Mississippi. To be honest, I believe I am very blessed to have an in-state school with the prestige such that of Ole Miss. Among others, a major reason I decided to come to Ole Miss was because of the low cost of tuition due to scholarships in return for a high value of education. From a young age, I have always been fascinated with Ole Miss’s rich history and breathtaking campus. All throughout my adolescence, family members with medical backgrounds have drilled into me to go to UMC to pursue a medical degree after my undergraduate studies. I believe it was part of my plan …show more content…
At first, I didn’t really know much about what a honors college program is about. I then furthered my research about SMBHC and coincidently ran into more people that are in it or have graduated. From my sources, I derived that SMBHC is one of the top honors college programs in the nation and that apparently it is a “real honors college” compared to other honor college programs around the nation. I decided it would be of my best interest to give myself a challenge in my courses by joining the honors college. I felt that the honors college would better prepare for post-grad school and that the smaller classes would be a good way to develop bonds and interaction with my peers and professors. I also found out that not as many people graduate with honors compared to the amount that first started. This can be due to a number of reasons. Compared to high school, I plan to change my outlook towards school. I believe that even though it is the best four years of my life, it is also the most deciding four years of my life. In my opinion, good grades and knowledge go hand in hand with success in

Many may believe having a son/daughter, sibling, or relative who has developmental disabilities, is the “end-of-the-world” so to speak. However, I am one to prove this generalization wrong. Growing up as the middle child of a family of five, I have come to realize that living life is something special; especially when you have an older sister who puts up high standards academic wise, and an older brother who has trouble spelling to begin with.
My older brother, Cruz, was born with Down Syndrome, a disorder caused by the presence of all or part of an extra twenty-first chromosome. Growing up I always considered him as normal, until I was old enough to notice a difference in the way he reacted towards certain aspects of life. Going out as a family was always strange, because we had at least one person who would look at my brother with a peculiar expression. However, this has just inspired me more because I know that children and young adults with developmental disabilities have a lot more to offer to the world than many of us normal offspring.
With my brother developmentally disabled, I have grown as a person. I now realize that I can help others who may be experiencing problems with disabled children. I can also form friendly relationships with children such as my brother, and know that there is more to life than just letting each day go by. Cruz has changed my life…

Sitting in the middle of class and all of a sudden you start nodding on and off. And you wonder why your eyes are closing in class. You missed all the information from the chapter which is going to be on the test which you didn’t hear your teacher announce was going to be tomorrow. After a week of continuous struggle in class trying to keep your eyes open causes you to drop from an A down to a C+. You try to explain to your parents why your grades dropped significantly, but they don’t believe you so they set up a meeting with your teacher and find out that you were falling asleep in class. Your parents believed that the reason you were falling asleep in class was because you were staying up late playing videogames, but in reality you were up late finishing your homework packets which apparently most of your teachers assigned on the same day. Most teachers who assign busy work as homework do not understand that they are the ones who contribute to the lack of sleep of students.…

Throughout my high school years, I have been through many obstacles that has shaped and improved me to help me be where I am today. I had jobs that I worked at until Midnight, and still had to come home and complete homework. I have risked receiving good grades for more rest. I have taken on extra responsibility knowing that I could not handle it. However, I have surmounted each barrier that has been placed in my way. If I were to look back on my high school years, the advice I would give to someone beginning their high school career is to complete their institutional credit as soon as possible, do not get caught up with negative influences, and most of all stay focused on maintaining good grades and a high GPA.…

If I were to select three adjectives to describe myself they would be common words. I would pick something like artistic, and funny, but the words need to say something deeper about me. Blithesome and passionate seem to be a good match, but of course I get stuck on the third one. So I sit here at my desk and text my long term boyfriend of four years. “If you had to pick one word to describe me, what would it be?” I ask. I press send and wait eagerly.…
