“Two roads diverged in a wood, and I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.” In life, we are faced with many situations that cause us to have to make decisions. The easiest thing to do isn’t always the right; the right thing isn’t necessarily the easiest. Sometimes we have to make the right choices on our own without any influence. Going to college was the best decision I ever made. Of course I could have taken the easy way out and not attend college, but if I had taken that option, I know that I would not be able to have the lifestyle that I want. I chose to go college so I can have a career, make my family proud, and be a great role model for my children. In Arkansas, people who only received their GED or high school diploma earn about $22,000 per year, but people who received a bachelor’s degree or higher earn about $53,539 per year. I plan to pursue a career in education, majoring in Early Childhood Education at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. I want to become an elementary school teacher, then principal, earning a salary of about $64,547. I have a passion for children and helping others. Of my mom’s children, I am the first to attend college. This alone, makes my family proud. Being raised by my grandparents, everyone expected me to further my education by going to college, preferably UAPB, to continue the family tradition. My grandparents and I are extremely close. They have exposed me to different things to make sure I was a well-rounded young lady. I know that if I hadn’t taken that step to come to college, I would have disappointed many people.
