College Admissions Essay: My Photography As A Career
When I was 14, my mother took my family to Yellowstone National Park and Wildlife Reserve in Wyoming for a family road trip before I entered High School. There, I was enthralled by some of most beautiful landscapes in America. I wanted to capture them all on my tiny iPhone camera! For a while, I was satisfied with the pictures I took on my phone, however, that was before I learned that there was so much more to photography than just pointing and shooting. There were angles, lighting, aperture, exposure, and other visual rules to be accounted for. My mother has an old DSLR, so I'd been exposed to more advanced digital cameras. It's funny, she never really took the camera off of automatic mode, so she essentially had an expensive point and shoot. …show more content…
It wasn't until recently that I thought about what it would be like as the photographer. It's no secret that everyone loves a good picture of themselves, and the prospect of capturing perfect moments and picturesque scenery for other people's enjoyment and my own is super exciting. I've actually recently started photographing musicals for the DSM Academy and the actor's and parents seem to enjoy them. I feel as if my years of theater work have helped me in show business photography, since I know how to work with actors. Photography is something that I've found makes me really happy, it's relaxing, and it's something that I can constantly revisit when I feel down. One of my favorite parts is how my pictures can reflect my mood. With the help of photo editing software, I can make them light and I can make them dark, I can basically do whatever I want with them. My pictures are like a blank canvas that I can manipulate at will to make something greater than before. The excitement that comes from photographing people and things, and being able to show my mom and dad something that I've created, is incomparable to anything that I've experienced in my

As a child, I decided to pursue an aspiration that began with a child’s doctors kit. I wanted to have a career as a doctor. I was on board with being dressed as the part; wearing scrubs, and always carrying a stethoscope. Looking back, today I would consider myself wise beyond my years. I wanted to help others feel better, or assist them in any way I could. A main characteristic of mine was being analytical. I am an equally observant and curious person. I desire to find out how the world works, or find solutions to problems. I consistently had questions about my environment. In pre-school, I got along with everyone in my classroom. I loved going to school for the fact that I was always able to learn something new. I’ve always been drawn to…

Last year, I had a class where everyone had to write positive things about people on slips of paper that those people would later receive. Most of the slips I was given had words like “artistic” written on them. It’s the one thing people think of when they see me. I’m given art supplies for birthdays and Christmas, I used to be able to fill sketchbooks in just a month, and creating just now seems like something I’m supposed to be alive for, but I didn’t get serious about it until I was in middle school and didn’t want to make a career out of it until I was a freshmen in high school. Unfortunately, I’ve been going to a school that does not offer much or any art classes but on my own, I have been climbing my way to my dreams of becoming an animator, illustrator, or tattoo artist. Going to Perpich will benefit me well in this process and I’ve already taken art classes at the Art Academy, started my own webcomic, experimented with many different mediums, and have read books about improving art styles. The visual arts is essentially my passion and I will do anything to keep it that way.…

The Arts have called my name for as long as I can remember. As a child, I dabbled in any intensively creative and performative thing that was in the immediate vicinity. I would go around telling all my peers that when I grew up, I was going to have any one of a number of extravagant careers: I would promise to become a famous actress on Monday, declare myself a world-class musician on Wednesday and swear to grow to be a best-selling novelist by Friday. The Arts, and all they encompassed, were my first love. It only seemed natural to me, like eating or blinking, that my life should be dedicated to the very thing that made me the happiest. I finally took my ambitions to heart my first year of high school, where I eagerly sought out beginning…

Sports, portraits, architecture, still life, I didn’t know where to begin! I decided to do contact my friend, Elysabeth, who was already in the commercial photography class so she could give me some tips for taking great pictures. She told me to start by a genre of photography that I had the most trouble in and work my way down to the easier categories. I took her advice and wow, did that help! Since I had the most difficulty in sports photography, I started with taking action-shots of the athletes at games, and they actually turned out all right, thanks to paying attention to my teacher in the Principles class. Then, I worked down to portraits and asked the most photogenic friends of mine to model for me. I used different angles of light and poses in order to use my photo characterize my friends as different emotions. Those photos turned out pretty well too; my confidence in my art increased when Elysabeth critiqued my pictures and told me that I had a good chance of making it into the Commercial Photography class. I was excited, but my challenges weren’t…

Growing up, I was always an outgoing child, but I never liked being the center of attention. I’ve always had a passion for music, and in the sixth grade, I started taking voice and piano lessons. Once I made it to high school, I was certain that I wanted a career in music. I convinced myself that music is what I was destined to do. During my junior year, I stumbled upon music therapy, which was a great combination of my two favorite things—music and helping others— and ultimately decided to apply for Belmont. The first few months of classes were great; I was even more in love with music therapy and how it can change peoples’ lives. However, at the end of second semester, I had a change of heart and mind. I realized that even though I have always loved music, maybe I could make a difference in people’s lives without using music.…

I believe in opportunity. The definition of opportunity is something that you want to do, have the chance to do, or the possibility·of achieving something. When I was younger, I lived in a heavily populated town: Laredo, Texas. At the time, I was an eighth grader trying to make my mom proud by getting good grades in my classes. Seeing my mom happy was the greatest feeling in the world. My father, on the other hand, started to disappear on us. I found out that my dad had a drug problem, and my mom was filing for a divorce. I did not want my mom getting a divorce, but I knew she would be happier. My parents splitting up killed me, but it was best for my mother and me. Thinking about the divorce now, it was probably the best thing that has ever happened to me, because it offered me one thing: opportunity.…

The career that I have literally chosen is the automotive service technician and mechanics career. The reason why I chose this career it’s because… Well actually I have plenty and many reasons to choose from because I am very passionate about this career and I have lived through it my entire life. One reason is that Auto Mechanics is because to me it’s an interesting field to me. I decided to explore the topic a little more to get a better understanding of what it would take to become a successful automotive technician . I have lived through the auto mechanics field pretty much all through my life. Well actually since I have been born. The reason of this is very simple. That is because my very own dad is an auto mechanic himself. Well actually to be more exact, he owns his own auto mechanic shop. Since I was little I have always helped him at his work because I have always enjoyed working with vehicles. Since the very first day that I started working with him I already knew that the automotive field was the job for me. Since I was a baby my very own parents use to tell me that I would disappear out of their sight. And when they used to find me I used to be playing with the tools besides my dad helping him out. I have pretty much made my mind up about actually going further in this career. Not only because I actually enjoy doing that job but also because of the pay check that you receive. Well actually that is a bonus in it. It does matter to me the money that you earn in it but not as much as I like doing the activity of interacting and working with automobiles. I have faith in me that one day I am not only going to fix cars, but I am also going to own my own shop myself.…

I was raised with the beliefs that there is an importance of having security in all aspects of life, whether that is financial, physical, or emotional. These were, and still are, the ultimate objectives I have for myself and every action I take and have taken has been formed around this sentiment. My parents taught me that “dreams are the touchstones of our character” and that it is important to dream big while remaining clear on goals and realistic with decisions. On the path to deciding my future, their advice remains with me and assists in establishing myself in the goals that I have set.…
