Code Orange Character Analysis

What traits most affect how a character in a novel acts, thinks, or behaves in a specific way? Mitty Blake, Yetta, and Todd Beamer display numerous character traits in their specific novels that send them into action. A particular trait emerges out overhead all the others. Of all the character traits, bravery most influences how a person acts and the decisions he/she makes. People react with bravery when needed to save a town or a city. Caroline Cooney, in Code Orange, shows an act of bravery by the main character, Mitty: “No, thought Mitty Blake. You will not dance in my streets. Mitty Blake rolled over. He kicked the cellar door shut” (Cooney 193). Mitty is scared that New York will get smallpox from the kidnappers trying to spread his infection. He wants to save his city and the world. Mitty is brave in almost killing himself of monoxide poisoning, trapped in the locked cellar, in the killing of his captors. This does end up killing his captors, almost himself, and would have saved his city from smallpox if he had it. This trait drives characters to be do what is right or moral. Other people might believe that this is the trait that most drives character action because doing what is right drives action from the characters. Although some may believe honorable/noble is the trait that most drives character action, bravery most drives character action. Honorable/noble it is not as strong of a trait as bravery. Anybody can be brave, and they can save countless lives depending on the situation. In Code Orange Mitty is doing more than just what is right he his being brave to save his city. In Uprising Yetta is being brave when she darts up the stairway to save her fellow workers. In Let’s Roll Todd is being brave when he brings down a plane to save countless
