Coconut oil has received a bad reputation for many years because it is a saturated fat, and you know we have all been told not to eat saturated fats, or to at least try and eat less of them. Coconut oil is made up of medium chain triglycerides. Most other saturated fats are made of large or long chain triglycerides. Medium chain triglycerides are absorbed more quickly into the blood stream and used for energy rather than being stored. Coconut oil also contains substances called lauric acid, capric acid and caprylic acid, these substances are antiviral, antifungal, and antibacterial which are actually very good for us. Coconut oil actually boosts the immune system and acts as a natural antibiotic that helps protect against the harmful bacteria …show more content…
Coconut oil can withstand higher heat temperatures and is one of the most stable oils to use. It is also resistant to becoming rancid like most other animal based oils. Coconut oil has a very long shelf life and retains all of its nutritional profile even after many years of storage and is highly recommended for cooking because it is remains stable at higher temperatures. It can be used in many raw recipes, blended drinks and various deserts. It is great for psoriasis and eczema, because it helps keep the skin from drying out. Coconut oil is also great for relieving dandruff when applied directly to the scalp. You can use it on your hair to help it shine and keep the frizzes away. You can also use it as an anti-aging moisturizer. It is also great on skin abrasions and burns.
