“To Kill A Mockingbird” written by Harper Lee, is a book written from the perspective of a child in the 1900s and written in a developed town where even the “small characters” make a big difference in the story, one “small character” in the story is Mayella Ewell, a crucial person in this story. Mayella Ewell, a white female who comes from a poor family lineage, and also has seven siblings and a father who gets drunk and abuses and disrespects mayella and her rights. Around the 1930s everything revolved around a kind of power, power was based on class, race, and gender. The power as broken up into two major groups, Black and white, which broke up into the three subgroups. Black people were not given much authority and were not allowed to do many things and were thought to be born to be servants, maids, and slaves. White people on the other hand, in the 1900s, had power based on the three subcategories of power, people thought that if a white family didn't have a black person in their home they were in the lower class and couldn't afford a black servant. This is still similar to what it was in the 1930s, but People have viewed it variously over the years, People have had a more liklihood of getting an education Due to laws that allow children to go to school And people with an education have a higher prospect of getting an excellent job, which leads to more money, which increases a persons level of income, which gives you higher level of class. People can gain or lose class by naturally making more money or losing their job, mayella is highly affected by her low education and intellect.
