Class and concentration summary paper
Class/Concentration Summary Paper Before I took this class I had not even been aware of what all the concentrations were, and hadn’t decided which one I had wanted to become a part of. I did, however, have my biases towards some of the concentrations, and had it in my mind that accounting, finance and CIS weren’t going to be for me. As of now I have a better understanding about what most of the concentrations are, and which ones I would enjoy and succeed in. The ones that stand out to me the most are marketing, accounting, and CIS. I know for certain that I like marketing, and always have, so this is most likely going to be my concentration. I think accounting sounds like a ton of fun and something I would really enjoy, but what turns me off to it is the fact that I would have to obtain so many more credits before I could take the CPA test, and I’m not sure that I want to be in school for that long yet. As for CIS I love the fact that there is always a good job market, but I’m uncertain of my ability to do well in this concentration. What made me change my mind about accounting was that in order to be an accountant you don’t have to sit in a cubicle all day long. I like to be social and knowing that I could do this as an accountant made me really appreciate the concentration more. As for CIS, all I knew about it was that it was computer oriented, and this scared me. After the presentation I am intrigued, but still unsure of what it would actually mean as a career path for me, so I will be looking into that before I commit to anything. Yes, I am much less worried about the whole ordeal because after listening to the speakers and taking notes, I no longer feel like I am taking such a shot in the dark. I feel like my decision is more guided and thought-out and I find a lot of comfort in this. Before I can choose a concentration I am going to have to have a discussion with my advisor to get a deeper understanding of the concentrations, more specifically CIS.

There were a ton of majors that looked interesting from this lecture. First off the animal sciences major looked very appealing since I love working with animals and would like to understand more about them. The major seems very hands on and adventurous. The major fits in with my strengths since I’m passionate in science related topics. Another major that appeals to me is the agribusiness and applied economics, as this was one of the recommended majors from the survey that was taken during the lecture. It combines many of the aspects that I enjoy, including working with numbers and the principles of economics.…

I was born in the late 60’s to the parents of first generation Americans. My grandparents migrated to America through Canada from Scotland in the early 1930’s. Eventually, both sides of the family landed in the Black Hills of South Dakota. My father’s side of the family worked at Homestake Gold Mine in Lead, South Dakota and my mother’s side of the family ran a trailer park in Hill City while my Grandfather worked at Mount Rushmore. After my parents married, my father followed his father by working at Homestake, while my mother was a stay at home mom. We lived on a hillside over the fairgrounds in Deadwood on Railroad Avenue. My father’s parents lived next door to us. Due to the fear of landslides, the city of Deadwood forced my grandparents and us to move off the hillside. As of 2008, the houses were still on the hillside, granted they slid downhill slightly. It is amazing how tiny the houses are, I would say no more than 400 to 500 square feet, and there were 5 of us who lived in the house. When I was about four years of age, we left the Black Hills and moved to a small mining town in Colorado called Creede. It is here I remember being left handed and having to learn to do things differently. I guess I go against the grain with handedness, according to our studies it suggests it is linked by a genetic basis. (Linke & Kersebaum, 2005) No one else in the family has been left handed, and even today I am still the only one. I still do things different from left or right handed people because I had to learn my own way. I started school while living here; we had a one room school house, and I remember we would follow the creek line down to school and back up the creek line to get home. I remember having a skunk get in the garage, our house was a bi-level with the laundry room…

What am I going to do with my life? That is a very important question that many people have to face at some point during their education. That point came early for me. That is because my high school required that every student pick a major area of study by their sophomore year. I decided that I would just pick the first thing that sparked my interest and take the introduction class to see if I could make it through five or six more classes on the same subject.…

When I first began this course, I didn’t really understand what Managerial accounting for Business Professionals were. I was very confused and also a bit intimidated with what is expected and how is the professor going to be. In my previous classes I have had some professors who seem to not care about us students. I have felt often that since it’s an online environment they could answer whichever way they want because there isn’t anyone to meet face to face to speak. Professor, you have been a wonderful teacher and mentor for us. I couldn’t have asked for anyone better. Even though some of the weeks were challenging I was able to overcome them. What I enjoyed the most was the budgeting planning in Unit 6.I am always looking to grow within my job and department, so learning some other things and being able to speak with my peers about what I have learned enables me to show that I am eager to move up the ladder of success and get promoted. I think that the Wiley assignments were very educational and with the 5 chances that we were given to do the work, this really helped me analyze and truly learn how to solve a problem.…
