Final Draft: Civil War The Civil War was unavoidable through political and territorial disputes. The main issue of the Civil War was slavery. The Civil War was fought between two sides over a conflict, dealing with abolishing slavery. The Civil War left six hundred twenty five thousand casualties. Both sides wanted to absorb one another to form their idea of the correct United States. The Civil War could have been avoided in a result of a deal that could work out for both sides. The Civil War was unavoidable in result of disagreement. The southern states did not like the fact that the northern states wanted slavery to be abolished. In retaliation the south seven states disbanded from the north and called themselves the confederate states. The six of the seven states that seceded from the north had the highest percentage of slaves. Lincoln did not want to initial a Civil War until the Confederates took over Fort Sumter the main fort held by the union. The south felt that the north was taking away their way of life. Rational decisions and slavery dispute led to the Civil War. The slavery issue was primarily about whether the system of slavery was evil that was incompatible with Republicanism in the United States, or a state-based property system protected by the Constitution. The confederate’s main source of income was cotton and tobacco, without slaves, they had nobody to work in the fields. With the tobacco and cotton fields wearing out the soil the south believed they needed to have more slaves, they wanted to open up slave trading. Slave trading was the capturing, selling and buying of slaves. Lincoln was pro Anti-slavery, so the south knew that Lincoln would not approve of slave trading.
