Chuck Close Visual Techniques

Chuck Close was born in Monroe Washington on July 5, 1940. He attended the University of Washington where he looked up to his mentor/Art Professor Alden Mason. At first Chuck Close was an abstract painter but once he left the University of Washington to attend Yale, he developed a strong interest in photorealism. As time progressed, Chuck Close began to struggle from several different conditions in his body. He was dyslexic, he had prosopagnosia (an inability to recognize the faces of familiar people), he had a kidney condition, and he also became paralyzed. Although Chuck had all these different conditions, it didn’t really affect his artistic skills. Chuck is now 75 years old and his reputation and standing has not suffered in the least.
One he is most known for is photo realism, which is a detailed visual representation of an object or photograph. The second is "knitting", which is a art style where he creates large-format Polaroids that he re-creates on large canvases.
