“I’m Chuck Bass.” By simply reading these words they would mean nothing to anyone, just letters on a page to create a sentence or words spoken on the television with dramatic music playing in the background but, to the viewers of Gossip Girl they mean so much more. Who knew that three words could hold so much power? Those three words could make women swoon and tremble in fear? That three one syllable words tied together could make anything happen by just letting them come out of his mouth in a sentence? Chuck Bass does, and he uses them to his full advantage-and downfall. Because his father has always been running the empire and Chuck’s mother died at childbirth, Chuck has always had nannies to take care of him. Once Chuck became of age to start exploring his sexuality, he did. This is how his little black book began. From call girls and prostitutes to ex lovers and women his father’s associates have recommended, the book is filled with names, numbers and, the company she works for. In Gossip Girl it shows Chuck in many sex scenes, in his personal and public bathrooms, in his bedroom, in elevators, in his limo, in the school and even in back allies, almost anywhere else you can think of. Many people might find this what should be intimate action on television to be very vulgar and inappropriate. It seems to stay true in the media that “Sex Sells” because the show is rated highly on Netflix and Hulu. There is no doubt that Gossip Girl is meant to have scenes where there is vulgarity, but, is it all that vulgar? Chuck is just doing what any heir to a multi million-dollar empire would do. Right? Gossip Girl appeals to more of the teenage audience when sex and sexual actions are questioned and at the highest peak. The show may seem a little too vulgar to some of the older generation (thirties and up) but to the viewers of the show know what is coming and more or less expect it from Chuck’s
