Christmas Has Lost Its Meaning

There is a special time of year when we all enjoy a feeling of togetherness amongst the people we love. It happens every year and when its over we start the long wait for the next one. We show the appreciation to all those we love and we spend time with them singing songs, enjoying a meal and generally having a jolly old time. This magical event is what Christians call the celebration of Christmas. On December 25, all Christians celebrate the birthday of their lord and savior Jesus Christ and spend time with their family, give each other gifts and enjoy their time together. In this essay I will illustrate the steps we take to celebrate Christmas. For starters, the first thing we do to celebrate Christmas is wait a whole year. During this wait we all work hard and save up money for the celebration. Keeping busy is the best way of waiting out Christmas since time seems to pass faster. We slowly count down the days as they pass, eager for the day to come already. However, we can’t just wait with our hands our pockets because for good execution we need good planning. Where are we spending Christmas? Who will come over for Christmas? What are we going to make for dinner? Is everyone bringing his or her presents? How long are they going to stay over for? When are we opening the presents? These are the some of the preparations that must be made to have a successful Christmas celebration. You have to get in contact with everyone you want to celebrate with as early as possible so they don’t make other plans. You must all agree on a set of dishes that will be served on Christmas. You have to find out how long who ever is coming will stay for and figure out what time you should all start to open the presents. Everyone coming must be informed of whether they should bring their gifts or not. It’s good to start planning, as early as possible but without a budget there can’t be a celebration. Christmas isn’t Christmas without presents. You have to find out what your relatives want and get them what is the most cost effective and fair to get for everyone. You can’t buy one cousin an Xbox and the other a movie ticket. Effectively rationing the budget you have for Christmas can make a huge difference in whether your celebration is a success or failure. A common mistake is to use more money on some things over others. While more presents are nice they might come at a cost more than their monetary value. What’s the point of having a lot of presents if your tree isn’t well decorated? What’s the point of having a lot of food if there aren’t enough people to eat it? Why have a luxurious Christmas tree if there’s no food to eat around it? Your budget should be spent in a way that there isn’t an excess or absence of the Christmas essentials. If followed correctly these steps should help you celebrate Christmas. On Christmas day your waiting, planning and correct spending will show their results. Your family will have a great time eating good food and opening their presents next to the beautifully decorated Christmas tree. You will be praised for how great you have made this special time for your family. Everything will feel like it was worth all the effort. In summation, Christmas is an elaborate excuse to spend money, force yourself to see your family members and indulge in glutinous behavior. While we have been lead to believe Christmas is a time to be selfless, kind and happy it is quite the contrary. We all want expensive gifts and don’t care how we get them. We get depressed when we cant make our loved one happy because we don’t have enough money, We push each other to get to the newest Xbox or iphone. A holiday that was originally supposed to be a celebration of a family coming together is now an industry that uses its consumers as the toys they buy for each other. We stress on how much things should look nice and expensive but don’t care about the thought and effort that went into them. Christmas is a business not a celebration.
