Are women treated better under the religion of Christianity or Islam? Both of them are similar in the sense that they follow a religious scripture, believe in a god, and have a history of treating women socially and culturally inferior. It can probably be safe to say that they are each as bad as the other. Even before a baby is born the parents already prefer it to be a boy. This can be interpreted from the phrase “….if a women have conceived seed, and born a man child: then she shall be unclean seven days…but if she bear a maid child, then she shall be unclean too weeks….” (Leviticus 12: 2-5) The man child is a boy while the maid represents a girl because during this time period and even now women were seen as being the ones who

    In the East and Western European societies the principle of the treatment of women was that women were less than their male counterparts and that they were suppose to act as they are just the background and have no voice. In documents 2 and 3 there are negative views on how women should be treated in their society. In document 2 Jewish Commentary on women was that they would try and recite the words of Grace, which is typically the men’s job in the family. They are trying to determine weather women should have the right to say Grace because it says that they do not understand what the words of Grace are and that their obligation to god is fulfilled. In document 3 from the legal code from Byzantine Empire where they though that women should no be accounted as witnesses and that they could not be dishonorable in front of a man. Also, they should be dressed modestly and virtuously and they think that women being able to be witnesses give them the privilege to speak more that they should. As a witness they believe that it is talking offense to a male’s role in their society. In part of the Muslim religion they believe that young children and slaves appear before their leaders and people naked exposing their entire body, and that leaders get their food served by more than 20 slave girls naked in front of everyone.     Most mainstream religions and religious organisations tend to be patriarchal and women and men are rarely treated equally. This is shown in religious scriptures for example in the new testament it says “wives be subject to your husband’s for the husband is head of the wife and Christ is head of the church”. In Christianity the creation story shows how eve was created from Adam’s rib and how eve is the basis of original sin. Another example is shown in the Koran which says that men are in charge of women. ItemA mentions “Feminists see religion as a force for subordination and patriarchal oppression. This is supported by evidence such as the differential treatment of women in religious congregations”. This shows women are still oppressed because of traditional religious beliefs.…

    I have selected the treatment of women in the Bible and the Qur’an. Both the Bible and the Quran seem to indicate men and women were created as equals. Men and women were created together, separate form one another but for each other and to live in a mutual relationship for protection and to care for one another.     Throughout all of time the Christians and the Muslims have had views that sometimes run parallel and sometimes these views are perpendicular to each other, which make them collide and intersect. Both Christians and Islam are a monotheistic religion; they believe that there is one true god. In addition they also both believe in Jesus, however the Muslims do not view him as the son of God, but rather as the last prophet sent by Allah.
