The motto, “The obesity begins in the youngest age” grabs the viewers’ attention by encouraging them to live a healthier lifestyle. The ad reveals an obese person, inside an ice cream cone, with his or her belly hanging over. Obesity is being shown to the audience with a visual picture of how it is being caused. The speaker is trying to meet the prevention of this serious problem, in kids all the way to adulthood, by informing them to eat healthier, exercise, and showing the major fear of many parents.

One of the keys to a healthier lifestyle is exercising. No matter how young or old you are you need to exercise. Whether it is swimming, running a mile, doing push-ups, sports, or even joining a triathlon; Stay active! Often, several of people use the excuse of never having enough time to exercise. If you happen to be one of those people all you need is a little encouragement. Tell yourself you can do it, bring a friend along when you want to exercise, and make the time needed to be active. The speaker may have once been in the position of knowing someone who suffered from obesity or they might have suffered (personal experience). The ad includes inclusive language.

The focal points in the ad are the obese belly and the ice cream cone. The belly is a great representation of what obesity is and the cone shows how it is caused. The audience pays close attention to what they eat and how much they eat. “You are what you eat” is one out of several sayings to live by when making choices about food. When presenting something as serious as your health to someone you need to have a serious tone towards them, use significant words to pull them in, and give statistics and facts about your topic.     The childhood obesity crisis is an epidemic that not only touches the lives of people in the United States, but it affects the lives of those all around the world. In a society where childhood obesity is a major health care concern, many do not understand the complexity of this issue whereas others just seem to ignore it. Publically it seems to fall at the wayside when it is discussed in conjunction with many of the world’s other problems. So many young children struggle with this problem as the rates of childhood obesity have increased. Childhood obesity can be defined as any child between the ages of 2 through 19 that have exceeded the 95th percentile of the Body Mass Index (BMI) in comparison of those in their peer group. BMI measures height, weight, waist circumference and skinfold to determine the amount of fat a person is storing. Today, nearly one-third of children and adolescents are overweight or obese and face major health concerns in the future (Ogden, Carroll, Curtin, Lamb, & Flegal, 2010). Contributors to the obesity problem are unhealthy eating, derived from a poor diet or eating too much, not enough physical activity, and lack of information on this subject. There is not enough being done to combat this complex issue and measures have not been taken to prevent this from happening in the future. If parents are educated about what childhood obesity is, what causes it, how it causes low self-esteem, why it is such an important topic, what they can do to decrease the risk of this issue, and how this affects their children as they grow into adults, then the number of obese children will decrease in time.…
