Have you ever wondered if you were born to become the person that you are or if your environment and life situations made you the person you are? Perhaps it is in your genes to be selfish or over-sensitive or carefree. Or perhaps it is your lifestyle and day to day situations that lead you to this point. Researchers and scientists agree that nature overpowers nurture and that you are who you are because you cannot be anything else but that nurture also shapes your innate personality characteristics into the person you currently are.

Part of the difference between a person who gets down under poor conditions but feels great in supportive environments and a person who is not much affected by anything around them whether supportive or not, is from a variation in genes like DRD4, which helps regulate dopamine, a neurotransmitter that helps people experience pleasure and reward (Rockoff, 2013). It has been proved that people whose dopamine levels are low in negative or distracting environments do not learn as well as in a warm but strict setting (Rockoff, 2013). For example, a mother with the DRD4 variation that lets her have high dopamine levels regardless of her environment treats her children better than a mother with the DRD4 variation that gives her low amounts of dopamine in a stressful situation. However, if the latter were in a good situation, she would treat her children even better than the former. One might be born temperamental but can tame his or her temper with meditation, per say. One might be extremely intelligent but without the developing of this genius, he or she will be average. Nature and Nurture are both extremes that one must link to come up with the present reality.
