Cherry Valance Character Analysis

From Soc, to Greaser, to in between, who is Cherry Valance, and why is she helping the enemy? Enemies are Enemies, but sometimes all people need is a little reminder that everyone is the same, even if that means becoming friends with the enemy. Cherry valance, known as popular, spoiled, and snotty, may not be who people think she is. If they get to know her, they might as well get to find out who she really is; a peaceful, helpful girl, with a sassy positive attitude.
Cherry Valance, a high school girl, struggles to stop violence. She loves a peaceful environment and tries to stop the violence before it starts. When Two-Bit and Pony were ready to put up a fight with the Socs, Cherry yells at the both of them. She hollers, “ Stop! I can't stand fights. I can't stand them” (Hinton, 45). Having enough confidence to say that not only shows that she is peaceful, but also brave.
But when it comes down to the enemies side, helping someone that is your enemy usually never crosses your mind. Unless youŕe Cherry Valance. Ponyboy and Johnny, two boys from the Greaser side, are convicted of murder against Bob Sheldon, a Soc who was also known as Cherry Valances boyfriend. When Cherry hears this, she knows that the two boys are innocent, and they were only using self-defense. She starts spying on the Socs for the Greasers so she can tell them what they are going to say in court and how they are fighting. When telling Johnny and Pony this, a friend of theirs, Dally, states “Hey, I didn’t tell you we got a spy. That good looking broad I tried to pick up that night you killed that Soc. The redhead Cherry what’s-her-name” (Hinton 84). Helping the enemy definitely shows just how helpful Cherry Valance can
