The purpose of the Density Lab was to determine the identity of four unknown solids and two unknown liquids by calculating their densities and comparing them to a density chart, taking into account error analysis and finally classifying the substances. In order to calculate this density, we first found the mass of the container that was to be holding the substances. We then found the volume of the substance, and lastly determined the mass of the container and substance. We subtracted (Container + Substance) – Container to find the mass of simply the substance. In order to distinguish density, we took the final mass divided by the volume, and identified the substances based on Density Charts we found online. Originally we hypothesized that we would be able to identify these substances based on the densities we calculated, yet this proved to be harder than it seemed, however our hypothesis was correct. We now could concluded the densities and identification. Materials and Methods: I first pulled out the small wells and place two drops of the Cobalt (II) Nitrate in seven of the wells. I then moved to the next row and placed two drops of Copper (II) Nitrate in the next row, into seven of the wells, and so on with the other three Nitrates. In The Laboratory, the courtesan chooses poison as her murder weapon. Poison is often the weapon of choice for female killers. It requires little or no physical strength to administer, and can be done secretly. It also leaves little evidence thus making it difficult to detect the culprit. We believe the act of murder is because of another woman that her lover is with and she feels physically inferior to her rival. We know this because she starts saying ‘What a drop! She’s not little, no minion like me.’ The murderer is also fascinated and excited about the poison and power of the poison, she says ‘And yonder soft phial, the exquisite blue sure to taste sweetly’ She thinks that her rival who she is out to kill will think nothing of it and will believe it’s just an ordinary beverage.
