Goodbye Mr. Chips

In the novel Goodbye Mr. Chips, James Hilton shows through Katherine how one person can make a substantial change in somebody's life present or not. Goodbye Mr. Chips is a sentimental story of a gentle aging schoolmaster and his long, close association with the school in which he taught. The two main characters that appear in this book are Mr. Chips the English schoolmaster and his lovely wife Katherine.
Mr. Chips' life covers the second half of the nineteenth century and the first third of the twentieth. In the beginning of the novel Chips is just an ordinary teacher just starting out in the teaching world. In that same year he meets a woman that will greatly effect his life forever. At first Chips is very hesitant about the relationship and wonders what Katherine sees in him. Katherine explains to him that it isn't his looks she's interested in, she's attracted to the man he is inside.

Vonnegut experienced many hardships during and as a result of his time in the military, including World War II, which he portrays through the protagonist of Slaughterhouse-Five, Billy Pilgrim. Though he remains unscathed, he is now mentally unstable and becomes “unstuck in time” (Vonnegut 30). This means that he is able to perceive…

Leadership. A trait, it has been said, that an individual is born with and cannot be acquired, denoting that it is in the gene pool of an individual’s family ancestry. However the main difference between Ralph and Jack is that Ralph is a dynamic character, who matures as the story progresses, and Jack is a static character, who remains naive for the entirety of the novel. An example of Ralph’s immaturity, “‘He’s not fatty,’ cried Ralph, “his real name’s Piggy!” (Golding 21).
