Character Analysis of Meredith Grey in Grey's Anatomy
Meredith Grey, M.D. is a fictional character from the medical drama television series Grey's Anatomy, which airs on the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) in the United States. The character was created by series' producer Shonda Rhimes, and is portrayed by actress Ellen Pompeo. Meredith is the series' protagonist, and was introduced as a surgical intern at the fictional Seattle Grace Mercy West Hospital, eventually obtaining the position of resident, and later attending. As the daughter of world-renowned surgeon Ellis Grey, Meredith struggles with the everyday life of being an attending, maintaining the relationship with her one-night stand and eventual husband Derek Shepherd, her new-found motherhood, and the friendships with her colleagues.
Meredith is the narrator of the show and serves as the focal point for most episodes. Pompeo's connection with Patrick Dempsey (Derek Shepherd) is acclaimed as a high point of the series. Rhimes has characterized Meredith as not believing in good or bad, but doing what she thinks is right. Pompeo has been nominated for several awards, winning many of them, for her performance on the show. Grey has been positively received by television critics, with Alessandra Stanley of The New York Times referring to her as "the heroine of Grey's Anatomy". News of Pompeo leaving uprose when it was made clear that her contract ended after the eighth season. Speculation occurred again when Rhimes reported that Grey's Anatomy will be returning for a ninth season. TVLine reported that Ellen Pompeo has signed on for two more years, along with her fellow cast

Meredith Eliassen gives us a clear look at the importance of point of view in the readings of literature. The point of view is a method that is used to help the readers get more engaged in the piece of work they are reading. Authors pick the perspective that elaborately best fits the story and endeavor to make a novel voice that will build up an association with the readers of the story. Meredith Eliassen goes on to describe different types of point of view. First-person Point of view is usually a character in the story referring to their self as “I”. While second person point of view, the narrator is referred to as “You”. At the point when a third-person perspective is being used the storyteller does not take an interest in the activity as…

Having the will to survive is the physiological force to fight, either mentally or physically, for one’s survival. Ellen shows this skill throughout the novel by dealing with child abuse. One example of this is her ability to cope with her father who is a self-destructive alcoholic. In the novel, Ellen is left to live alone with her father after her mother sadly passed away. This makes her life a lot worse because when her father is drunk he expects her to take her mother’s place. For example, one night when Ellen was at home her father tries to grab her and actually calls her by her mother's name, “Get away from me...That is not me. Oh no that was her name. Do not say her name to me. That was her name. I am Ellen” (Gibbons 45). This scene…

I believe in judging someone by their actions and character rather than by the color of their skin and sexuality. This I believe because there is good and bad in all of us. The color of our skin does not depict the flaws we have. In the second amendment it states that all men are created equal, but we still do not treat each other equally. Defending Tom Robinson was not easy because I knew that from the minute Mayella opened her mouth Tom was a dead man. But everyone including a black man deserves a second chance. How could I ever tell my own children “You never really understand a person until you consider things from their point of view - until you climb into his skin and walk around in it” if I didn’t pick up Tom’s case because I was afraid of what people would think of me. When people say things about me like “Atticus Finch is the same in his house as he is on the public streets” why would I prove them wrong? You are only as good as you portray yourself to be. But when you are a black man in the town of Maycomb, Alabama you were never dealt the good hand to begin with. Sadly Tom never got a second chance. Tom was a good man but because of the color of his skin he was not treated as fairly as the rest of us.…
