Mr. Osborne without any formal leadership or music education was able to effectively and successfully lead and maintain control over his band for a number of years. He demonstrated this natural leadership skills that was reinforced through experience and through observing the failures of others. Although this was a difficult time in our Country's history he was able to build trust, communicate with the members, lead by example, create a positive environment through encouragement and extend the bands influence and camaraderie even to the clientele. Novicevic, et al.,) As a leader in today's Army I have the training and experience to lead and influence Soldiers and Civilians by providing purpose for the missions, the direction to take and the motivation necessary to accomplish the mission. Thee are various leadership styles available and it is the leaders responsibility to know the proper one to use in and given situation. As a leader no mater what style is used the ultimate goal is to influence, provide direction, motivation and purpose so that the mission can be accomplished successfully. Mr. Osborne example showed that he was an equal and ethical professional in that he enforced the rules without applying unfair discretion. As an Army leader it is my responsibility to cultivate and enforce this same type of behavior in my organization. It is important for all Soldiers to know that whenever a wrong s committed the punishment and justice will be equally applied regardless of rank or status.
