CELL ANALOGY
THE ANIMAL CELL IS BEING COMPARED TO A FOOTBALL
TEAM.
BY: MYA FREAKIN BROWN AND CALEB FREAKIN MILLER

ANIMAL CELL=FOOTBALL TEAM
A CELL IS LIKENED TO A FOOTBALL TEAM BECAUSE, LIKE A CELL, A FOOTBALL TEAM
HAS MANY PARTS TO IT WITH DIFFERENT FUNCTIONS.

CELL
MEMBRANE=OFFENSIVE
LINE
THE CELL MEMBRANE IS A SELECTIVE BARRIER FOR THE
CELL. IT DETERMINES WHAT CAN ENTER OR LEAVE THE
CELL, SO IT PROTECTS THE CELL FROM ITS
SURROUNDINGS. THE OFFENSIVE LINE, LIKE THE CELL
MEMBRANE PROTECTS THE QUARTERBACK AND
HALFBACK FROM THE SURROUNDING PLAYERS ON THE
OTHER TEAM.

CYTOSKELETON=COACH

THE CYTOSKELETON GIVES THE CELL SHAPE, ANCHOR
MANY OF THE ORGANELLES IN PLACE, AND DIRECT THE
MOVEMENT OF ORGANELLES. THE COACH KEEP THE
PLAYERS IN PLACE AND DIRECTS THEIR MOVEMENT BY
GIVING THEM DIFFERENT PLAYS.

CYTOPLASM=FOOTBALL
FIELD
CYTOPLASM IS THICK FLUID THAT SURROUNDS ALL OF
THE ORGANELLE IN THE CELL. IT TAKES UP THE WHOLE
CELL THAT IS A MIXTURE OF WATER AND DISSOLVED
SALTS, IONS, AND ORGANIC MOLECULES. THE
FOOTBALL FIELD SURROUNDS THE PLAYERS AND TAKES
UP THE WHOLE STADIUM.

GOLGI
APPARATUS=RESERVES
PROTEINS ENTER THE GOLGI APPARATUS SO THAT
THEY CAN BE MODIFIED AND STORED. EVENTUALLY,
THE PROTEINS AND SENT EITHER INSIDE OR OUTSIDE
OF THE CELL. THE RESERVES IS LIKENED TO THIS
BECAUSE THAT IS WHERE PLAYERS STAY AND WAIT TO
BE PUT INSIDE OR OUTSIDE OF THE GAME.

LYSOSOMES=DEFENSIVE
LINE
LYSOSOMES CONTAIN ENZYMES THAT BREAK DOWN
LARGE MOLECULES TO BE USED BY THE CELL. A CELL
CONTAINS A VARIETY OF LYSOSOMES THAT CONTAIN
DIFFERENT ENZYMES THAT SPECIFIC
MACROMOLECULE. THE LYSOSOMES PROVIDE AN
ACIDIC ENVIRONMENT SO ENZYMES CAN BREAK
DOWN LARGE MACROMOLECULES WITHOUT
DISTURBING THE FUNCTIONS OF OTHER MOLECULES
IMPORTANT TO THE CELL. THE DEFENSIVE LINE
BREAKS DOWN THE OFFENSE ON THE OTHER TEAM
AND CREATE A SAFE ENVIRONMENT FOR THE
QUARTERBACK, WHO IS IMPORTANT TO THE TEAM.

VACUOLE=LOCKER ROOM
VACUOLES ARE ENCLOSED SACS THAT SERVES AS A
VARIETY OF STORAGE FUNCTIONS. FOOD

    is something that lets some things in and some things out of the cell. It is an outer cover for the cell. If the cell membrane was non existences the cell would spill all over the place. Its function is to protect the integrity of the interior of the cell by allowing certain substances into the cell, while keeping other substances out. It is composed of a thin, double-layered sheet of lipids, around the Cell and is a protective membrane layer around every Cell.…

    Cell Membrane- The cell membrane controls what enters and what leaves the cell, while also protecting it. The Titans, isn’t just a football team. In Greek mythology, the Titans were greater even than the Gods themselves, the rule the universe with absolute power and that power, is teamwork. I tell you when my team was a mess at football camp, I told them I don’t care if they are white, black, green, blue, yellow or orange they will bunk in the same room, sit on the same bus and eat in the same lunch hall! Of course things didn’t turn out pretty.…

    Life is defined as a distinctive characteristic that a living organism, dead organism or non-living thing, and it has the ability to grow, metabolize, respond to stimuli, adapt and reproduce. Cells are not smaller that 0.1 um because within the cell all the necessary components have to take place, cellular metabolism, reproduction, photosynthesis and there has to be a sufficient amount of space for that to occur. Once you get to this tineness the machinery in this cell cannot work anymore when a cell gets to be too small its functions are impaired and it’s ability and it wouldn’t even be able to meet its own chemical needs. In addition, the substances that cells work with are already really small, both ions and very small molecules. But you can’t decrease the size of these things, the cell has to be able to support these ions and such. Scientists have the ability to detect something as small as an electron. Electrons are the smallest part of an atom. Since every molecule as at least one electron and it takes several hundred to even in the thousands to make cellular material the assumption is able to be made that there are not cells that are too small to detect.…

    The cell is the basic unit of life. The following is a glossary of animal cell terms. All cells are surrounded by a cell membrane. The cell membrane is semipermeable, allowing some substances to pass into the cell and blocking others. It is composed of a double layer of phospholipids and embedded proteins. Color and label the cell membrane tan. Plant cells have an additional layer surrounding them called the cell wall. The cell wall is made of nonliving material called cellulose. Color and label the cell wall brown. The centrosome (also called the "microtubule organizing center") is a small body located near the nucleus. The centrosome is where microtubules are made. During cell division (mitosis), the centrosome divides and the two parts move to opposite sides of the dividing cell. The centriole is the dense center of the centrosome. Only animal cells have centrosomes. Color and label the centrioles purple. Microtubules are shaped like soda straws and give the nucleus and cell its shape. Label the microtubules inside the nucleus.…

    First we are going to learn about the Plasma membrane it is also called the cell membrane. No, it is not the same thing as the Plasma Tv. Most of you are probably familiar with. As you can see with the above picture the Plasma membrane is on the outer side of the cell. Plasma membrane is what separates the interior of the cell from the outside environment. It is like the peel on an orange. The cell membrane is selectively permeable to ions and organic molecules and controls the movement of substances in and out of cells. It is basically the fence that protects the cell from outside forces. It does allow a few things through though. Carbon Dioxide, oxygen and water are mostly what it allows through.…

    “Football is like nuclear warfare. There are no winners, only survivors.” Frank Gifford, a retired NFL player and now commentator, said this quote referencing to his 12 years as running back for the New York Giants. This quote is directed towards the impact that football does to you. Frank Gifford is comparing the effects of a nuclear warfare to the effects football has on your body and mind. Children are impacted greatly by football due to programs that have started too early in their lifetime, effects such as overload of knowledge, injuries, and interest in sports later in life.…
