Causes Of Waste In America
I agree that produce waste in America is a great challenge especially with the rising homeless population. I worked in the grocery business for many years and saw firsthand the amount of produce that went to waste. Any produce that had a bruise or imperfection was discarded as trash. Having organizations to pick up imperfect produce for those in need would be a great way to combat the waste. The Salvation Army currently has a program that picks up day old bread and pastries for the homeless. If the same organization could also pick up fresh produce it would give those in need a healthy food option. Another way to eliminate waste is to give all other spoiled produce to farmers to fed to their animals.

    Landfills are growing at an exponential rate in the United States; this is a big concern for many people. Many years ago people just threw their garbage in dumps and forgot about it. Then it started to become a problem as the dumps got fuller and just kept growing. People have to put their garbage somewhere; they produce over 4 pounds of garbage everyday per person, that’s about 250 million tons for the country (EPA.gov). The population is growing at a very quick rate also.
