The immediate cause of WW1 was the assassination of Francis Ferdinand, the archduke of Austria and his wife on June 28, 1914. This occurred while the couple was touring the streets of Bosnian capital, Sarajevo. Gavrilo Princip, was the assassin and a Serbian student affiliated with the Slav terrorist group known as the ‘Black Hand’ secret society.
