1.5 YOUR OWN IDEAS A. Select just one of the opening lines .use the words to begin your own desert island story.
I found myself lying on a sandy, palm- fringed beach. It was clear that, I was the only survivor of my flight squad. The German anti- aircraft missiles had shot us down. I looked around for any survivors, but none were there to be seen. I was alone in the island surrounded by water on all sides. I was devastated because there was no one who could help me. I thought, I had lost my mind, I couldn’t think properly. I remained in the same confused state of mind for couple a days. Then the hunger and dehydration became unbearable .I had to do something to survive. So, I went into the island’s jungle. I searched endless for any source of food or water but none seemed to exist. It was quite demoralizing but, I decided not to lose hope and kept on searching .This mental attitude proved to be the key aspect of my survival. Through perseverance, I was able to find coconut trees. I used the coconut flesh as food and drank its water which provided me with energy. I felt rejuvenated. Being a fight squad member, I always carried a survival knife. Now I had to think fast and find myself a shelter. Luckily, I had spotted a cave nearby. So, I decided to use it as shelter but there was no insulation to protect me form the cold. I collected some firewood from the jungle and used my survival knife which had a small compartment for some match sticks, a compass and sewing pin. I used the matchsticks to light up the wood which kept me warm at night. The next day, I decided to find a way through which, I could contact my fight squad base so that, I could be rescued. I kept on thinking and suddenly realized that my plane had a tracking device. But I didn’t know where my plane had crashed but I kept on searching and eventually found the beach where my plane crashed after; I had ejected to escape the crash. I found my plane total wrecked on beach but

Abelard rushed in with a wooden bat, with the most frightened look on his face. He told us to get in the corner behind a small closet door, but by the time my little sister had made it, it was too late. The dreaded German soldiers had already barged into the room. They grabbed Abelard, and he had a look of defeat on his face. They shot both my mother and father. I fell, my heart feeling like an elephant was on top of it. One of the soldiers came and hit me with his gun. I remember seeing Abelard jump out of the soldiers grip trying to block them from shooting my little sister, so they shot him.…

I hated peanut butter and now the plane would smell like peanut butter for forever, great. “No thank you,” I sighed as I wiped the mixture of spit and peanut butter off of my face. I stood up and looked around me, hoping to find an escape from all of this absurdity. Then I saw it, in the front right corner of the plane was a small, blue box with some faint, illegible writing. I walked over to the box and noticed it was a parachute. An epiphany came across my body as I realized that this was my chance to depart from the plane. I immediately took possession of the parachute, opened the emergency exit, closed my eyes, and jumped out of the plane. I heard a loud thump and slowly opened my eyes. The sight around me was not the crummy, rickety plane, but instead, it was an old helicopter. Just as I thought things could not get worse, they…

But there was tons of combat, gunshots, explosions, and lights flickering as every explosion went off and I sat there restrained in a chair alone with nothing but worry for my comrades that I last seen when we surrendered. After a couple of hours it was completely silent and everything was quiet, and the door swung open with 4 marines and a commanding officer from NATO forces, but there uniforms were American mainland uniforms so it was the end. They got to the island so quickly, but I was informed that 2 of my alpha squad members returned to outpost alpha and saved almost 20 marines that held sanctuary there. However the 2 marines that helped us were executed by CSAT forces before NATO reinforcements got to my position. I know that the attempt at taking over that compound was next to impossible, but I still feel dread for all the Marines we lost in that final effort. It is currently 2038 and I still I am alive with my family, but still in denial about all of the marines we lost, all of alpha squad's members got returned to their homes as well and now live with their families. Although I will never forget the ones who weren't fortunate enough to return home and I will always honour them more than…

Most people hear about sudden plane crashes or news about people lost at sea and believe it’s all for attention and money. But, whenever reading Hatchet by Gary Paulsen, your thoughts might change traumatically and think about reality a little bit better than before. In this adventurous book a boy named Brian Roberson gets caught in the middle of a plane crash, landing somewhere in the extensive woods of the Canadian forest, due to the sudden heart attack of the only pilot on the plane. Brian is left with nothing except the Hatchet his mother gave him and the many remnants of his windbreaker. Though he experiences major hardships, Brian still manages to survive in the dangerous, large forest by reflecting on his previous knowledge. As I go back and read over all the extraordinary things Brian achieved and all of the things he could do that I couldn’t, I came to the results that I wouldn’t be able to survive in the forest for over 54 days.…

Today I was dropped off by my crew, to start the survival series, where I will have to live in the wilderness and use the materials around for 11 days, with a camera in front of my head. I only came with an empty knapsack to carry the materials that I’ll find during this series. There are two rules for the series, I have to move to another shelter everyday and you can only bring things in your knapsack, you can’t just carry them, so it will be more exciting for the viewers to watch. I started by ripping off some branches from the trees nearby and went to settle under that small overhang near the mountain. I gathered some rocks that contained some quartz near the river, and broke them in half by smashing them into other rocks, then I smashed the parts together and got sparks which started a fire. After creating a fire, I went out to see if there are any food, I found a good amount of blueberries which can last me a while because it can satisfy my thirst too. I gathered some fallen leaves and slept on them.…

The waves crashed against the lone island once more. Ralph sat in a covert, huddling himself for warmth. He closed his eyes. Flashes of his comrade and friend, Piggy, filled his wandering mind. Ever since he had died, Ralph never stopped thinking about it. A brisk, cold wind shocked Ralph and he quickly stood. Dusk was drawing near, and his wounds from the other encountering boys had ceased to stop. Noises from the jungle northwest of him began to sound with the sound of chanting boys and the crackling of the fire that had been consuming the island. Frightened, Ralph ran to the beach hoping for an escape. All he could do was pray to God that something would save him – a ship, a plane, anything. But he looked up into the clear night and saw nothing. There was no choice but to run.…

We all ran to our airplanes like we have practiced and trained for more than a dozen times. We completed the check and soon were up in the air. For a brief moment the air was clear with no airplanes in sight. There was smoke around the medical area and the dining facility. Soldiers were scattered throughout. From up high I could see areas which bombs left a hole. As I dived in my Mustang due to bullets coming from above I saw many dead soldiers.…

My son is screaming as he is sick from the polluted water we have to drink from. The higher caste people drink from clean fresh wells and laugh at us as we drink from the local pond filled with animal feces. There isn’t much hope for our kind of people, but for us it’s all about slim chances.…
