This article was written by Maggie Astor, a reporter on The New York Times, a newspaper considered to be one of the most reliable source of information. Astor also has a degree in political science from Barnard College, therefore the information she provided is highly credible. In the article, she reports of a recent Dove ad that caused an outcry in the social media for its racist undertones. Astor quotes Dove’s spokeswoman and her apologetic remarks, stating that the ad was intended to convey a different message and that the company will re-evaluate its internal processes for creating and reviewing content. Critics are unimpressed of the apology. Astor then lists examples from the past of ads that were accused of racism: Intel, Popchips, Nivea…

The child's mother decides to stay in the in the waiting room while the child's physical exam is being conducted by the provider. Before the physical exam starts, the provider decides to ask the patient if during the past 12 months she has ever drunk alcohol, smoked marijuana, or used anything else to get high. The patient reports that she did drink alcohol on two different occasions over the past 12 months. The provider proceeds to ask the patient the six CRAFFT questions and the patient does admit to riding in a car once with a friend who had been drinking alcohol. She said that the friend "definitely was not drunk, but did have 2 drinks." She answers no to the other 5 questions. The patient's CRAFFT score would be a "1." According to the scoring for the CRAFFT tool, a score of 2 or more is a positive screen and indicates a need for additional assessment (Levy & Knight, 2009). Since the patient only has a score of 1, the plan of care for this patient will entail a conversation to advise the adolescent to stop using alcohol completely. The statements by the providers should focus on the adverse health effects of alcohol and drugs. She should be made aware that she should never ride in car with anyone that has been drinking alcohol, even if she feels like they are not intoxicated due to the risk of getting seriously injured or killed from a car crash. The patient should also be asked about…

Pocahontas is often celebrated of how unique she was compared to her predecessors especially for the fact that she was based off of a real person. Finally, there was a female lead who strayed from the norm. The story of Pocahontas displays how Pocahontas stood up for herself and her beliefs. The story was also the first that did not end in marriage. Pocahontas dismisses the conventionally glorified love interest which was unusual for a Disney princess to do. Rather than escape an evil figure or Perdue a love interest, Pocahontas wanted to bring peace and unite the Indian tribes and the English. Pocahontas is portrayed unorthodoxly when compared to previous princesses. "Pocahontas must rescue the male protagonist, John Smith. Her daring move…

If Dylan had only knew what he would be getting himself into when he innocently auditioned for his freshman year musical. If Dylan had only known the shame, humiliation, embarrassment, and torture that was yet to come, he would have never enthusiastically auditioned in front of a panel of directors. If only he knew that he would become a statue when he faced the Musical Theatre bulletin board. It was his first audition. His first musical. His first year in the school. His first time performing. His first time on stage. It was the first time Dylan had ever seen his name listed next to the lead on his school’s Peter Pan cast list. He was frozen in his spot while he read the roster of results: Dylan Marci - Peter Pan. How could he, someone who seemed…

Earlier this evening, I turned the last page of your newest book on the concept of the Positive Woman. After closing your book and letting your argument sink in for a while, I couldn't help but feel a sense of confusion mixed with anger. Your entire argument is based on a gross mischaracterization of what the feminist movement’s goals and strategies are, and on top of that, there are numerous logical missteps throughout your argument. I hope in this letter to address these mischaracterizations of the feminist movement and to refute some truths you asserted that I believe are not as universal as you claim.…
