SUN Pharma Company was established as a partnership firm by Dilip Sanghvi & his family to manufacture pharmaceutical formulations at Vapi, Gujarat. The Company specializes in selected therapeutic segment to psychiatry, cardiology, neurology, gastroenterology, orthopedics, ophthalmology nephrology and diabetology. It also makes Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients such as warfarin, carbamazepine, etodolac , clorazepate, anticancers, steroids, peptides, sex hormones, and controlled substances. It is the largest pharmaceutical company in India, the biggest Indian pharmaceutical company in the US, and the 5th biggest speciality generic company globally. Over 72% of Sun Pharma sales are from international markets specially the US. The US is the single biggest market, accounting for about 60% turnover; taking everything in perspective formulations/finished dosage forms, make up 93% of the turnover. Manufacturing is done across 26 locations, across plants in the US, Canada, Brazil, Mexico and Israel. The annual revenue of the company for the year 2013-14 was $2.7 billion and the net income was around $920 million. The company offers APIs and formulations in therapeutic areas, such as allergy, analgesic, anti-malarial, anti-infectives, cardiology, dermatology and cosmeceuticals, diabetology, gastroenterology, HIV-AIDS (world's largest manufacturer of antiretroviral drugs (ARVs) to fight HIV/AIDS), hormones and steroids, iron chelators, musculoskeletal, neuropsychiatry, nutritional and ophthalmic products, oncology, respiratory, urology, and women’s health in various dosage forms.
