Case Study: Rebecca Herring
Typically, when people are asked to identify someone that they think is successful, their immediate go to is someone who is older and someone who has usually had more time to accumulate numerous accomplishments. However, this is not the case for me, since the person whom I believe is successful in their life is my best friend from Texas, Rebecca Herring. Rebecca and I have known each other from the time we were infants in preschool, with the phrase “knowing each other from the time we could walk” being completely accurate. Though Rebecca is nearly 20 years old, she has achieved so much greatness in her life. Just in high school, at a glance Rebecca was band section leader for the French Horns, a four year Varsity letterman in track and field, …show more content…
I chose Achiever because the Strength requires satisfaction from being busy and deals with stamina and being diligent, which describes Rebecca perfectly. She is constantly involved with a diverse amount of activities and clubs that take up a vast majority of her free time during the week and on weekends while maintaining a perfect GPA, which seems almost unhuman. This Strength helps her be successful because although she is constantly busy, she remains well-rounded and has the concept of time management perfected. The next Strength that I chose is Competition because whether it be in the classroom, outside running, or even playing Wii games, competition is a huge factor in Rebecca’s life. Her competitiveness has helped her excel in the classroom, pushed her to her limits on the track, and has brought out a desire to be the very best even at a video game. This Strength helps her be successful because in some cases, a little push to do better at something is necessary, and for Rebecca that push is the competition. I chose the Focus Strength because the Strength requires targeting a direction, prioritizing the requirements, and acting them out in order to accomplish a task. Whether or not she realizes this, Rebecca does this with every task ranging from tasks as menial as driving to the store, to as monumental as choosing a major, or in Rebecca’s case, three majors. This Strength helps her to be successful because she has formulated a clear-cut path to ensure her success. The next Strength that I chose is Responsibility because the Strength describes people who take ownership of their obligations through stable values such as honesty and loyalty. I chose this Strength for Rebecca because if she does something wrong, which is very rare, she holds herself accountable for her actions and is honest with repairing the situation. The final

The first time I met Anastasija was not quite the first time she ‘met’ me. In particular, before starting her high school education at NOVA International Schools, I had heard of Anastasija and her interests through my contact with one of her cousins, Ms. Bela Gligorova, who was my guidance counselor at that time. I was introduced to Anastasija in person in December 2010, right after I finished my college applications. An inquisitive young mind, a polite and thoughtful person, Anastasija’s curiosity and questions about my college application process and my high school accomplishments, struck me as novelty, since Anastasija was only in seventh grade at the time.…

Similar to other students, each of my five strengths has a significant influence on my life at Grace as well as my studies. First of all, being an achiever clearly empowers me to pursue my dream of becoming a teacher. A few of the characteristics of an achiever are great stamina, productive, and a hard worker; these will definitely benefit me in the coming years. Also, this strength will aid me in my goal of attaining good grades during my college time. No matter what, I always put my best effort into my work. I generally do what is asked of the teacher/professor without even thinking as well as do anything necessary in order to pay attention to what is being taught which more than likely will be an advantage for me.…

My friendship with Sarah went along with all of Knapp’s stages, from beginning to end. She was the new girl at school; we became best friends over her first few weeks at Heber, and remained friends until the fall of our senior year. The first stage of Knapp’s relationship development is the initiating stage, when two people “meet and interact for the first time” (Floyd, 2011, p. 188). Sarah and I met on her first day at Heber Springs High School. I was the person who showed her where all of her classes were. We were able to talk about so much within the first few minutes of meeting. We had so much in common. She fit right in with my friend Hannah and I, it was like she had been with us since Kindergarten. We quickly moved into the initiating stage of our friendship and moved right into the experimenting stage.…
