Coronary artery disease is one of the most prominent forms of heart disease. It occurs when the coronary arteries that supply the heart blood become narrowed, and eventually occluded. This narrowing typically takes place because of plaque build up due to cholesterol and other fatty substances being ingested, also called atherosclerosis. This thickening of the artery wall can take many years, eventually completely inhibiting blood flow. Because the blood flow has stopped, little oxygen gets to the heart, and the myocardial cells therefore die. This is when a heart attack ensues, also called a myocardial infarction.…

I am writing in response to your health concerns. Unfortunately, according to your biography, it is reasonable for your doctor to be concerned about your overall health. I believe that she has noticed that you have multiple risk factors that predispose you to cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome, and type II diabetes. Those factors include your cholesterol, weight, and the fact that you are prediabetic.…

Virginia is a United States Supreme Court case which laws prohibited interracial marriage. The case was brought to Mildred and Richard Loving, a white man and a black woman, who were sentenced to a year in prison for being married. The marriage violated the anti-miscegenation law, which prohibited marriage between classified “white” and “colored” people. This is how a local Sheriff ,who is believed to have received a tip, entered Mildred and Richard’s bedroom around 2 a.m. and took them to the Bowling Green Jail where they were charged with violating state law. Mildred had stayed in jail several nights while Richard was able to post bail the next day.…

Aston-Blair is a producer of "precious metal alloys and other specialized alloys for commercial and industrial use" (Aston-Blair Case, 1999: M-6, 13). At the time of the case, this company is experiencing difficulties due to the economic slowdown that occurred in the early 1990s and the declining price of gold, caused by the start of the Gulf War. At the end of an executive committee meeting, Wynn Aston III, CEO of Aston-Blair, charged Peter Casey, Vice President of Marketing, and Chris Trott, Vice President of Corporate Planning, with examining the company's forecasting processes in order to achieve better inventory control, financial planning, and improve production scheduling. Aston believed that "poor forecasting was one of several underlying factors contributing to the firm's poor performance" (Aston-Blair Case, 1999: M-6, 13).…
Marian suffered from a heat stroke causing her body to experience hyperthermia. Marian body went through the process of homeostasis from experiencing hyperthermia. “Homeostasis is a state of body equilibrium or stable internal environment of the body.”(Marieb 8) Homeostasis protects the body by allowing it to adapt to the environment. Marian homeostasis tried to cool the body but failed. Though Marian was lucky her daughter found her in time. When a heat stroke occurs the body’s homeostasis shuts down where the temperature can reach high enough to cause brain damage to where you die. Heat strokes can cause damage internally well as externally. Hyperthermia causes a positive feedback mechanism within the body. “A positive feedback mechanism is a feedback that tends to cause the level of variable to change in the same direction as an initial change.”( Marieb 9) When the body stimulus rises the hypothalamus’s thermoreceptors start to work as the body’s thermostat. The thermoreceptors send messages allowing the hypothalamus to make temperature changes in the core. When the core starts to raise the heat loss mechanism starts one or two things: “dilation of cutaneous blood vessels or enhanced sweating.”(Marieb 833) “Dilation of cutaneous blood vessels is where the vessels swell with warm blood, heat is lost from the radiation, conduction, and convection” (Marieb 833) Some symptoms for a heat stroke are “throbbing headache, dizziness and light-headedness, lack of sweating despite the heat, red hot skin, muscle weakness or cramps, nausea and vomiting, rapid heartbeat, which may either strong or weak, rapid shallow breathing, behavioral changes such as confusion, disorientation or staggering, seizures, and unconsciousness.”( http://firstaid.webmd.com/heat-stroke-symptoms-and-treatment)…
