Stone tools are often made by removing material from a core until a desired shape is obtained. The flakes removed from the core can also be used as tools in their own right. Long parallel-sided blades, however, dominate in some parts of the world. Because blades are removed from a core systematically a large number of tools can be produced while very little raw material is wasted.…

Sticks and Stones and Such-like is a story that explains how an innocent indian boy doesn’t fit into socity because of his name, Sunil. I was able to relate the story a bit as my mum and family had a bit of the same problem when they moved to Australia. It is interesting to see Sunil ashamed of his name for majority of the story and how his mother’s influence helped find his belonging.…

All in All, Mud, River, Stone by Lynn Nottage, was truthfully the most eye-opening experience in theater I have ever had the great privilege to be a part of, a realistic look at the way our society views foreign problems but also how we deal with them in retrospect to ourselves once again making the very loud statement that if it doesn’t directly affect us then it doesn’t necessarily matter. I am beyond pleased at our very successful run from February 11th-Feburary 14th not only for the work that we did as a cast but also for successfully turning the mirror in so our audiences could see out.…

"If she could find for pebbles of almost exactly the same size and shape, it meant that her family would remain whole"(Perl, Lazan, 8). This is the belief of a young girl named Marion from the memoir titled four perfect pebbles by Lila Perl and Marion Lazan. Mariam lives in a concentration camp with her family in the Netherlands. Since Marion is too young to work she has devoted her time to looking for four perfectly similar pebbles, one for each member of her family. Despite scientific reasoning she believes that if she finds these pebbles her family will remain safe and whole. This is just one of many examples that show how in difficult situations humans find hope, beauty and strength in unusual forms and…
There is absolutely no doubt that society has changed drastically since the dawn of age. Whether it be how hunt for food, make weapons, or even construct the things around us, we are living in a very advanced society. While all these things may be true, we still borrow numerous ideas from these so called archaic societies. Statues used for decoration now were used for worship then yet still hold very similar structures. Long ago relief was one of not many techniques to create art and yet is still used commonly today. Even the architecture in our homes and public buildings is not so different than it was in places like ancient Rome. Although our advance in society is undeniable, things in our modern world are still majorly influenced by cultures that lived long ago.…

The homo erectus are the first to make a flaked stone axe, better known as the Acheulian hand axe. It was named because of the location it was found, in France. It was sharp, heavy and chipped on both sides into a point. It was able to be used for chopping, slicing, and digging. As time went on people began making polished stone axes. When the tools were polished they became stronger and made it easier to chop wood (Mahdavi). In the Middle East, there was also evidence of butchering animals and debris from making tools and ornaments. They also buried their men, women, and children which was a sign that they had affection for their people…
One of the finest relief sculptures that had been created around 1500 BCE was the The Harvester’s Vase. The vase structure was created out of black steatite and it had an appearance comparatively to an ostrich egg. The low relief vase depicts a group of harvesters in profile view, singing and walking with harvesting tools on their shoulders. One particular harvester, that was singing and shaking an Egyptian percussion instrument, ribs are exaggerated to an extent where scholars have hypothesized that an interest in the muscular system could have originated from how possibly loud the figure was singing. The other harvesters depicted on the vase also show signs of muscular activity on their shoulder region, legs and thighs. This was the first time in Aegean history that an artist showed interest in the human anatomy and groups of people singing.…
The Red Balloon’s (Lamorisse, 1956) opening shot has a mise-en-scene that focuses on the start to the young boy’s morning as he approaches the early sunrise of the streets of Paris with his school bag in hand. Along his way he stops to enjoy the simple pleasure of petting the cat sitting on the sidewalk before he descends down the stairs to continue on his way. The opening shot presents a shallow focus as the camera’s main view is that of the boy, cat, and the top of the stairs. The background of the shot is very dark with shadows, while the foreground is extremely distant with only a faint view of the streets of Paris and the morning sky. The editing of The Red Balloon’s opening shot to the second shot has a jump cut transition as the opening…
