Carpe Diem Essay
Carpe Diem Life is a moment.
There is no hereafter.
So make it burn always with the hardest flame.
“The Picture of Dorian Gray”

What will you do when the time will over? Are you sure that it will be enough for you? If not, seize the day! Later never exists. There is only “here” and “now”. They are going by, becoming things of the past and neither your remorse, nor regrets will save them. Most people turn on the waterworks about things left undone and words left unsaid The moment is like a snowflake: you have only few seconds to admire its beauty, it is useful for a blink, then it turns into water. The biggest tragedy for a person that they spent the whole their life, waiting when the moment to live begins. We are so busy to live! Always “not yet”, “later”. Do flowers in spring say "not yet"? You are incapable to put the moment in a bank and wait the better times. Don’t lost your best moments only because you don’t sure. There is no time for mulling over. “There is only a moment between the past and the future, and this moment is called life” as it was said in one beautiful Russian song from the movie “The Sannikov Land”. So, don’t wait for a special occasion. Being alive is the special occasion. Fulfill every moment of your precious life, do what you like to do, be with those whom you love and say what you feel. “You only live once; but if you live it right, once is enough.” (Adam

After thinking about the past years of my life I have found few major moments of joy; which just goes to show how rare they are and that if we do not recognize them they will just fly on by. When learning of the devastations of the Holocaust we are often only offered one side of the story, one view of the event, one account of the pain—that of the direct survivor. However, the effects of trauma live on forever, and stay with people even when they are not first-hand victims. In particular, there are children of Holocaust survivors or second-generation survivors whom face enormous difficulties as they come to terms with the horrendous plights faced by their ancestors. For Art Spiegelman, author of Maus, this was the struggle. Growing up with survivor parents exposed him to the presence and absence of the Holocaust in his daily life, causing confusion and great amounts of self-imposed guilt and blame. This havoc led to an underdeveloped identity early on—a lost and prohibited childhood, a murdered one. The effect of having survivor parents was evident in Art’s search for his identity throughout Maus, from the memories of his parent’s past and through the individual ways in which each parent “murdered” his search to discover meaning.…

1 In the essay "A Brother's Murder," Brent Staples writes about his younger brother, Blake, who took a very different path in life than Staples did. 2 The essay starts with a phone call in which Staples learns that Blake has been murdered, shot six times by a former friend (517). The essay goes on to tell about the conditions in which Blake grew up. The neighborhood in which the brothers lived was violent, and young men grew into dangerous adults. Staples recalls a conversation he overheard there between two Vietnam veterans, in which one of them said how much he preferred to fight with young men from the inner city, who wear "their manhood on their sleeves." They weren't afraid to fight, believing that violence proved they were real men (518).…

This simple quote by Morrie speaks so loudly. What if today was your last day on earth? This is really something to think about. Nothing says live everyday to the fullest better than this. We never know when our last day will be, it is best to live ever day as if it were your last. Take your days one at a time. Most people look at life in years, giant increments of time. I believe if you look at life by each day, you will appreciate so much more. Society is fast moving and always planning way ahead. One day time is going to catch up to all of us. I am going to try to live life more slowly so that I can appreciate the moments for how beautiful they are. We should all try living in the moment.…

Other people look at it as though tomorrow may never come, therefore you should do as much as you possibly can today. No one likes to admit it, but you all know that death can happen at any time. You never know when you will take your last breath. In this life, I plan to continue whatever is it that I can because I still have time. I will do right things, more of them If I can. I will paint happy faces, touch young hearts and make the road of life colorful. Then I will be filled with happiness and watch my loved ones happy, too. I will make more dreams and reach for them. Someday, I will be lying maybe on a grass and watch the stars twinkling above me. Then I will be so glad and contented. You see, this life is what you make it.…

It’s not so easy being grateful since it’s really hard to be happy with what you already have and realizing how lucky you are to have them. I honestly wasn’t grateful for anything, I thought I never had enough, I always wanted more. Till the day came that reality slapped me across the face and helped me open my eyes to something’s I thought I would never notice. I didn’t learn to be grateful all by myself, I had the help of an amazing friend that and I’m glad she came around because if it was for her, I’d still be the same old ignorant person I used to be.…
