Carpe Diem
Carpe Diem
In the old days people died left and right because of many reason so it was important to carpe diem. They couldn’t look to the future because they didn’t know if they were going to have one. They also couldn’t look to the past because it was full of death and pain so it might depress them. The ones who were alive were just happy to see the sun in the morning. Someone from the past used to say procrastination is the thief of time so do it today and live each day as though it were your last. You have one chance at life and don`t want to have regrets about what you could have done.
A lot of people choose to carpe diem (seize the say) but many people choose not to. As for me, I like to seize the day every day of the week. I don’t know how my future will turn out so I have to live in the moment. I make the most out what is handed to me no matter the situation. Some people just look to the future and ignore the present and some people just look at the past. Adults work all day, and their whole lives hating their job just so in the future they might have that promotion or to have a nice retirement. Seize the day people are the people who love their jobs and money isn’t an issue to them. They are generally more happy than people who try too hard to make it rich. In high school I see a lot of people trying to live the YOLO life. YOLO is you only live once and I think it is over used and completely dumb. People say the saying as a way to do something stupid and make it ok by saying “you only live once so why not.” Seize the day is completely different because it means take the day and make it the best but YOLO means do whatever you want. I think YOLO is an excuse for teens to be as crazy as they can. Carpe diem is when people don’t know how long they have to live so they live every day as there last. YOLO kind of means I don’t want to be old so let’s die young. Even the popular songs on the radio idealize this idea by saying dance till we die, live while were

Think before making a major decision, if not you will regret it. This relates to the story "The Scarlet Ibis" by James Hurst when he describes the theme of death in many ways. " the carpenter built a little mahogany coffin for him for him " when his parents didn't think the child would live. His Aunt Nicey also said " red dead birds are bad luck " when a Scarlet Ibis died right in front of the family one day during dinner. I think the author wanted the readers to think about the meaning of these sayings and take it to heart.…

This quote is about living in the present, not focusing too much on the past or the future. I often struggle with being content in the moment, and I am always looking forward to my next goal, next trip, next adventure. I want to be more present in the moment, noticing the little things like the life in the desert or the stars in the sky, as this quote says. I want to be able to be present as a teacher, appreciating the little ways I am inspired by what my students do, say, and write. I want to be able to appreciate and acknowledge the little acts of empathy, compassion, and kindness I witness in my students, rather than just look forward to summer vacation.…

In modern day people live their life and are determined to better their future from their past. This means that the past that I have already lived is what created the path, walkway, stepping stones for who I want to become in the future and, what I plan on accomplishing in life. I live for this belief because it is the reason why I do what I am doing today. The plan that I thought I was destined to take three days ago might have been altered today, and I might have to found a new path to follow.…

In “Once More to the Lake” by E.B. White a man’s deja vu in his trip with his son makes him realize, almost violently, that his life is quickly approaching its end. In his revelation he finds that every moment that passed had brought him closer and closer to death. While this sudden realization might send others into a spiral of depression, the author chooses to reflect fondly on the past and spur himself into action for his future. It does not benefit anyone to dwell on the past and ignore the future. Time will continue to progress, despite any action to slow or stop it. The only thing that can be done is to seize that moment and propel them into the future. Stop in the moment, truly look around at the world, move forward in life with a sense of purpose, whatever that purpose may be. Release any negativity or regrets that would only serve to slow progression, and allow the potential for happiness to overflow instead. Spend life in a state of contented peace, do not rush or delay. One must allow themselves to be…

Nagel makes a good point when he said: “the fact that all good things in life come to an end is reason for regret.” Some people want more to enjoy in their lives. Others are terrified of death, so they live in fear, not living life to the fullest. He said that it is scary to think that when a person dies, the world with go on without them and they…

You only live once tells me to live in the present and to strive hard for my dream. There is no second chance to live again, so I do not want to regret my life. Dream big and live strong is the ideal way to live. For example, running for officers for any club is not something scary. I learned to not be afraid to lose and just give it a try, otherwise I will not even have a chance to get a position.…

Why do people spend time worrying about things in the past, when they have so much future ahead of them? In the award winning novel, Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech, a mysterious note is dropped off on the Winterbottom’s front porch: “In the course of a lifetime, what does is matter?” Through this metaphor, this message is trying to reveal to people that they should not fret the things in life that won’t matter in a few days, months, or the course of a lifetime. Even thinking about events that occurred in the past, waste time in the present and future. Ultimately, this theme has a significant relation to several characters in the novel and the world at large.…

Proverbs and sayings give short and understandable guidance about how we should live our lives. Since they are only a line, they often only show a single way of living, paying no attention to difficulty or subtlety. For that reason, sometimes two proverbs can be seemingly contradictory but both give good advice. While one quote (“Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise”) suggests a life that is calm, planned, steady, and controlled, the other (“Eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow we may die”) suggests a carpe diem approach to life.…

The chance to go back and hang my arms from a tree, sit in an elementary class, deciding whether or not to sign up for the talent show, or audition for the high school play. That compared to writing a sixty-page thesis, watching my best friend’s casket being lowered into the ground, or diagnosed with stage four cancer followed with Major Depression. The two compare quite drastically, as it is looked upon that our younger years, full of pureness and perfect simplicity, are sought upon to be relived. Though the future has many blessings and beauties, it also holds the knowledge of good and evil, the fall of man displayed for all to see.…

A moment, much like life, is not fully complete until one realizes that it is fleeting. The curse of man is that after being gifted with advanced intellect and comprehension, he is now fully knowledgeable of the impending demise about to be suffered by him and his kind. No other creature on his planet has such a burden to bear. The simple things are also the most extraordinary things, and only the wise can see them. Wisdom is learned by three distinct means: by reflection, which is noblest, is first; second, by imitation, which is by far the easiest of the three; and third by experience, which is the bitterest as it involves putting into practice your own method and weighing out their successes. With all the aspects of living that go on, one…

"Time rushes by and yet time is frozen. [It's] funny how we get so exact about time at the end of life and at its beginning." This quote by Helen Prejean shows the importance that time has played in many American dreams. Part of my American dream is to let time play less of a role in my life and to go experience life at the pace I want to and achieve my goals how I want to. My family has always had the same philosophy about time, and is very supportive of my primary goals: going to college, becoming a high school teacher, and being a loving husband with my own great family. Salvador Dali's "Persistence of Memory" helps to reflect my idea of time "melting" out of need and Emily Dickinson's poem "Because I Could Not Stop For Death" shows the fast pace that many Americans have put their lives in, which is exactly what I would like to escape from.…
