Campus Computer Labs: Prince Georges Community College
Campus Computer Labs: The Issue At Hand

As a student at Prince Georges Community College I like to take full advantage of all the resources available to me since at the end of the day I am paying for them. This sometimes includes staying a few hours on campus and doing my work instead of waiting until I get home to do it. One major problem that I encounter on a daily basis on the PGCC campus is the campus computer labs. I can never walk into computer lab without leaving out due to it being over crowded, little or no staff being around to help, or computers not working. As a PGCC student I believe this is a huge issue that really needs to be taken more seriously.

On a daily basis I encounter a number of issues on the PGCC campus but the one that affects me the most is the problem with the computer labs. When I know I have to complete an assignment on campus I get an instant headache. Not because I have to do the work but because I know the hassle I have to go through to find a computer lab that isn’t overcrowded and actually has computers that are working. Ashlee Davis, a current student here at PGCC also agrees that the computer labs here on the campus are a big issue. She goes on to say that, “When it comes time to use the campus computer

labs she always find herself going to one lab and leaving or either waiting close to 15 minutes for an available computer.”Just like Ashlee, most of the times when I leave one computer lab to find one that

At the beginning of the lab, a micro test tube with and without glass wool was weighed on an analytical balance. A watch glass, crucible, and lid were also weighed. The masses of all the materials needed for the lab were recorded in the data tables of the laboratory notebook. An unknown vial was obtained from the teacher and set to zero on the balance. About 0.6 grams of the unknown was measured into the micro test tube. The analytical balance was set to zero again and then the test tube with the unknown was measured and recorded.…

The California Science Center seems like a wonderful place, filled with exhibits that have many learning opportunities that make it seem like you are not learning, but having fun. I severely regret not going. The California Science Center is located south of downtown Los Angeles, in the historic Exposition Park, near USC (yeah!). Cost of admission is $10.00 (well that’s for parking, other than that, to get in is a donation), which is quite a paltry sum of money, seeing as you seem to get hours upon hours of fun. The days and hours of operation for the California Science Center are everyday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. In order to become a California Science Center member, one must call (213) 744-7504 to purchase a Membership, or visit the Membership Information Desk at the Science Center. If you become a member, you become, as stated by the California Science Center website, “part of a dynamic, innovative community dedicated to our mission to stimulate curiosity and inspire science learning in everyone by creating fun, memorable experiences.” If you do not want to pay to be part of a wonderful organization, you can volunteer by turning in an application either by e-mail, fax, or by sending a letter to the Department of Volunteer Resources. In order to volunteer, however, you must be at least 16 years of age. Looking at the application, I believe that all elements that you are to put down are viable, and I would not change a thing.…

When reading this section, learned that the section was from chapter 3 of Now You See It: How Technology and Brain Science Will Transform Schools and Business for the 21st Century by Cathy Davidson. On chapter 3, “Project Classroom Makeover”, the main issue was on technology in the classroom. Luckily, I had the chance to read this book in high school once, see when I read this, Duke University was chosen to participate in “Apple Digital Campus”, where each school was chosen to pick a product from apple to be used across campus. So some educators, this was looked at with total bust because they would become in a way more distracted. In the book, a lot of the professors had said, “It’s just a distraction; this should never be used as an academic…

It is getting better and I believe that we could utilize our existing facilities if our school would put a computer in every student’s hand. The English and social studies departments now have online access to all textbooks, assessments and support materials. Unfortunately, we don’t always have access to a lab and therefore, we are unable to utilize all of the online resources we have available. Other departments are moving in that direction as their curriculum adoption schedule comes up. Improving our technology infrastructure is possible with our existing facilities. It is just finding the funding to do it now. We tried to pass a bond last year and it was voted down by the community. Some of the improvements addressed the exact issues I have…

The Dome that rests atop Beardshear Hall was almost never a part of Iowa States’ architectural wonders as it was removed from the original budget due to a lack of funding. Beardshear Hall has a very rich history that dates back to over a century ago. Beardshear Hall has been an integral part on campus even before it was fully completed, housing multiple programs, which were eventually transferred to other buildings, as more administrative space was needed. The story of Beardsheer hall unfortunately starts with not one but two great tragedies in Iowa State Universities’ architectural history.…

In modern society a college degree is not only encouraged but greatly desired by the masses. Within their dream they imagine a beautiful school, excellent job, and lifetime of success. Camden County College should be all about giving the students the best education they can possibly receive. CCC came up with an idea to install condom dispensers in all of the restrooms. This idea will bring up very conflicting point of views. Students will begin to question what the school’s true priorities are. CCC Administrations are there because they know what is best for the school, they make all the decisions for the school whether it is wall paint or it is faculty. Both the students and their environment heavily contribute to the success of the educational institution. Discrepancies may present themselves that prove to be irrelevant to the college’s true priorities. Overall, CCC Administration should not be making decisions that are so irrelevant to the college’s initial purpose.…

The technological advances in education have boomed in the recent years. Looking back to the early 1990’s, just 20 years ago, computers were an uncommon sight outside of universities and did not become a staple in public classrooms, library’s, and the middle to lower income houses until almost the turn of the century. Looking back at the scholars of just 30 years ago, they were still doing research the old fashion way, in the library. “As of 2003; 93% of all public instructional classrooms reported having access…
