Businesses organise themselves into different organisational structures which are hierarchical, flat, matrix, functional and divisional.

A functional area is a department inside a business
Administration– They carry out multiple support activities to help the business operations run smoothly.
Customer Service- They help customers who have any questions, concern or complaints.
Distribution- They make sure that the products are delivered to the right place, on time and in perfect condition.
Finance- They control two main tasks; providing information so managers can run the business, and to keep the accurate records of financial transactions.

They will also have to make sure that the contracts with other brands are up to date.
At Tesco’s the Marketing function is responsible for selling the products and the purpose of the department is to make curtain price cuts to curtain products however not without the agreement of the head office.
At Tesco’s the ICT function is responsible for all o0nline aspects of the business and the purpose of the department is to make sure that their online website is running smoothly for best customer experience as the store gets a lot of online users and they also have to make sure other online services by Tesco are running to their best abilities like Online banking etc.
At Tesco’s the finance function is responsible for budgets and the purpose of the department is to allocate budgets for all the stores, set targets for the sales and profit targets. Each store gets a different budget depending on their size, the amount of employees it has etc. Finance is controlled by the head office
