Gornick was a teacher in graduate writing programs that were mostly far from home, and this new job took her two hundred miles away from New York to the “exact middle of nowhere” (Gornick 110). As most New Yorkers, she didn’t have a car, and getting there by plane or a train would prove to be a tedious and expensive task. A bus was the more realistic choice for her, so on Monday she boarded the Greyhound bus that would depart at 5:00 in the afternoon and drop her off at 9:30 in the evening at a truck stop fifteen miles from the school. On Thursday nights she would return to the truck stop at 8:30 in the evening and be back in New York by 1:00 in the morning.…

I walked across the street to the bleak concrete sidewalk to the entrance Great America. My friends and I had spent a week planning this meetup for the day. As I walked towards the entrance I saw my old friends Theodore and Oliva. Theodore was a normal sized boy and had short, black hair and dark brown eyes. He was wearing khaki shorts and an orange t-shirt. Wow, I forgot how long Olivia’s hair was. I thought. She had very long dark brown hair and was wearing a bright pink t-shirt and flower print shorts.…

The air quality is deteriorated by humans heavily using fossil fuels to power up automobiles, generate electricity, and used for many other purposes. Unfortunately, fossil fuels are nonrenewable resources, and the burning of the fossil fuels releases the pollutants into the air, and forms a mixture of fumes with the air. It is called smog. Smog can block the radiant beams of energy from the Sun from entering and exiting the Earth’s atmosphere. As the effect, the temperature on Earth would increase. This is known as global warming. Global warming can cause the ice in the North and South Poles to melt and the sea level rises. In some regions, rising oceans would put larger land areas underwater and threaten people living closer to the shore. Air pollution also causes respiratory problems like lung cancer, lung disease, common cold, influenza, and many other severe infections that turn out to be deadly to humans. Problems in your airway can cause you to have a tough time inhaling the oxygen and exhaling the carbon dioxide in order to filter out the air in your lungs.…

Chaotic noises fill the inside: the quick paced footsteps of travelers searching for their train or train times and the frantic voice of the tannoy alerting people where to go. Ammoungst the myriad of confused people, there stands a frail old lady, her hair a delecate grey colour like when, on a cloudless night, the moon shines upon water. Glasses perched on nose, she scans the plethora of train facts and figures to try locate the stand where her train is. To the right of the old lady, next to an out of date dull red phone box, there sits a sleepy beggar who smells like a unpleasant concoction of alchohol and vomit. Grasping his cup, the man pleads for spare change from passers-by. Speech slurred, noone understands him and they walk quickly on by. The sadness which the beggar is feeling at this point intoxicates the room like ink in water.…
