Since the foundation of the United States of America it has always be portrayed as the land of endless opportunities in which its people can do freely what they desire. This is also known as the American Dream, which is set of ideals in which freedom includes the opportunity for prosperity and success, achieved through hard work. However, can prosperity and success be achieved by everyone or do certain ethnic groups have discriminatory barriers limiting their success? In the play A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry it becomes painfully clear that African Americans have to deal with racial prejudices complicating the completion of their desired dreams of a better prosperous future. Even though, the diverse…

In the critique of, “The Moon We Left Behind,” by author Andrew Harlan he thoroughly explains the good and bad of the essay originally written by author Charles Krauthammer. Harlan’s initial paragraphs were on the original author Charles Krauthammer’s background and summarization. He illustrates wide knowledge and facts to explain how some of the information is faulty and how the world has benefited and still continues to benefit from our trips to the moon. Harlan also states the original writing dismissed too quickly the arguments from the oppose and describes that for the right reasons most of the population would agree with further endeavors to not only the moon but beyond. He describes in the last paragraph that Krauthammer…

Through the entire novel of The War of the Worlds the main theme should just stick out and be easily identified. As Martians from Mars continue to roam the Earth and cold heartedly destroy and eliminate any human activity in their presence, the people who reside in the battles and those who try and survive the bloodshed seem to be somewhat tested. The human response to all of the massacres and violent outbursts is what the author wanted to put out there so show how we would possibly react if this were to be placed in reality. The narrator in the story is focused on to show how one would give the will power and energy to progress further and see how long one would be able to last through all the horror. Blockades creating problems and having someone to try and force their way through a particular one.…

The short stories in the book consistently emphasize this development in character, concentrating on the change from naive, immature, and still blossoming girls to experienced adult women. Change in humans is inevitable, and from the way Munro illustrates this theme — change is good.…

My focus is on scene nine where Bella is confronted by the Cullen’s vampire rival, LaRon. LaRon’s intent is to kill Bella now that Edward has left her defenseless. The scene is set in the meadow where Edward first appeared to Bella in his true form. When the sunlight shined on Edward his skin glistened like diamonds. At that time the meadow was beautiful, the grass was green, the flowers were in vibrant full bloom, and the sunlight shined down so bright. Now that Edward has left the meadow is dead, the grass has turned brown, all the flowers are gone, and the lighting is low and gloomy. I like to think of this as a metaphor to Bella’s spirit how it was alive and vibrant with Edward’s presence and is now dull and a part of her has died.…

The myth of Apollo and Daphne is about a god who falls in love with a water nymph. It all had started when Apollo decided to make fun of Cupid about how he's just a child, and his weapons are nothing in comparison to those of Apollo's. Cupid got angry and then shot Apollo with the arrow of love, and Daphne with the arrow of disgust. Daphne was a water nymph who wanted to be like Artemis, and remain a virgin. While Apollo chased Daphne proclaiming his undying love for her, Daphne began to get desperate and called on the help of her father. Her father heard her pleas of help, and transformed her into a tree. This broke Apollo's heart, so his official plant became the Daphne tree. Today, in modern society, the myth of Apollo and Daphne is referenced, because it has many different interpretations.…
